Hezonja or Jett? I think Mario was a better player.

I am sorry: are you defending that Howard should be in the NBA?

Come on.

This is what we do…cling to them if they show even a glimpse. :banghead:

Even if he becomes a decent player…so what? Maybe someone else will sign on for his wildcard and maybe they’ll do better with him but move forward while he still MIGHT hold a tiny bit of intriguing promise…we don’t need to make so many bets at this point.

Mario was better.
And he’s way better now with his Euroleague experience.

If he knew we would work him like a horse and be respnsible for a winning record headed to the POs he probably asks for more

Nah, that smile is genuine.
He’s played only 50 games, he wouldn’t have survived a full season workload.

This was a sneaky decent trade value bump game for Jett because he showed some non-3-point scoring.

Yes...this is what a correct salary for an older vet part-timer looks like. We're just not used to seeing paying a fair market salary work out....we've been conditioned to think it's normal to "reward" players just for sticking around (and then quickly descending in their value) while blowing up our cap sheet.

I'd love to sign Mario to a cheap make-good deal...that was a guy worth developing. Now maybe he's ready.

Box score thoughts:
Orlando won the FG% battle and won the game%

Not gonna go through stats on this box score though: only one stat matters from this game:
Orland guaranteed it cannot finish with a losing record. That is a big wow compare to where the team was only a week ago.

So: GO MAGIC.

I like to hold off on these assertions. Guys like Malik Monk and JJ Redick didn't exactly look like NBA caliber players in their first few years in the league either. Then they were able to eventually turn it around. Maybe Jett might be able to do the same.

He isn't rookie, and he doesn't have single nba skill after 2 years. That would be requirement even for a second round pick let alone lottery pick.

Problem with him is simple, at college he played for daddy and bigger role than he should.
During his rookie year, majority of time in G league he spent as ultra high usage player, and once again, he played role that is above his talent level.

From now on, you are asking guy to play role as role player, but he has no clue how to do it, because he was babied for past 3 years.

He should be off ball spot up shooter that moves without ball for catch & shoot, curl, make good cuts, get ball on the fly for fast decision and pass etc. Well.. .he neither moves without ball nor has ability to read game fast enough to be efficient cutter/ slasher.
In 59 games / 665 min of action, he only got 12 shooting fouls.
Only 9% of all his shots come near rim, he simply isn't capable of getting easy shots.
And in same time he isn't good enough shooter to live off jumpshot.

Basically, you wanted him to be new Duncan Robinson / Sam Huaser/ Aaron Wiggins, but due who was his father and how he was used at college, he was played like he is Zach Lavine / Kriss Middelton.

During all that, you still have to be fine with fact he is flatfooted without lateral quickness to guard SGs, SFs at nba level, and too weak to defend PFs, but it's not just about limitations, he also doesn't read defense well.
And as last wrinkle in all travisty of him being lottery pick comes from notion that he also can't rebound to save his life.

NBA has solid amount of not athletic players that had excellent careers. But you have to have elite BBIQ and read and process game well, and be very, very, VERY skilled. Jett Howard just isn't one of them.

A lot of factors go into development, I don't remember redick in the rotation his first few years.......Jett needs the right environment, may not be here

We shouldn’t be cowards about pushing dead weight off the treadmill…even if they’ll flourish elsewhere. Good teams are not just a collection of talents that may or may not fit…clinging to guys that can’t keep up or contribute is doing them a disservice too.

A guy with guaranteed money on a lottery pick scale is more than just an empty uniform now…this is so Weltman…keep the kid around - floundering long enough to ensure all hope of salvaging any trade value is shot, thereby not only wasting a lottery pick and commensurate salary, but also denying the player a chance to develop in a more suitable environment. Other teams might still see upside, particularly with the common understanding that ORL doesn’t have an offensive system or coach…but they’re not going to believe that for too long.

Oh, and then…give the kid a big extension- just in case. Can’t risk making the team and GM look bad by seeing him flourish elsewhere….better to burn cap and let him rot in your attic.

The thing is.... You don't see whats going on behind the scene. The work that's put it. And neither do we. So for me... If they hold onto him... They see the potential to be "more" than what this season might show. And just because you want to call him dead weight.... Because he's not performing to a level YOU want when YOU expect him to.... Thats on you... Doesn't make it the right approach.

But to be honest... A lot of the criticism is because he's not shooting well when we need shooting.... So scrutiny becomes high. I like his playmaking abilities. Last game he showed some chops to try and do more inside of the line as well.haha.... kinda like all of sudden how I got super excited to watch houstan pump and drive. Lol.... Most exciting points of the last game.

There was a point mid season Howard's defense was looking pretty darn good with lapses ever so often as he'll get caught ball watching. This is his first NBA full season.... At 21.... Same with black. We were getting drunk on university campuses and studying our majors at their ages. They are still growing into men.... In a league filled with.... Men. People with more experience than they have. And not everyone is going to come into the league and set it on fire. With the way that Caleb has developed.... I'm good giving jett more time just as much

Return to Orlando Magic
