Absolutely Masai has been great overall.

But it's also fair to say from 2020-23 he didn't get the Raps a C worth starting and it hurt the team. Baynes, Len, Birch, Achiuwa, Boucher and Koloko all started games at C from the Raps.

Back then I commented that he seemed to be more focused on Giants of Africa than the Raps. And maybe he was. It "seemed" like Bobby was running the show more and eventually Masai stepped back in to start making the decisions again. For sure the last 1.5 years have felt more like "good Masai" that the few years previous.

But he needs to keep going. Adding BI and a top pick to this group are great adds. But we NEED reliability at backup C so the team doesn't drop in play so much when Yak sits. And we have the assets to address it, so no excuses.

I do think a sneaky trade is going to happen that surprises us all.

But there's an important distinction from Masai until 2020 and what we've seen since. We had the highest of highs up until 2020 and then misery since lol.

Let's see how the offseason unfolds but I truly hope we build a complete roster. I do not want to see Mogbo as our primary backup C next year.

We were the 2nd most winning team pre 2021 after the Warriors and it culminated in a Championship. Going through a lull is part of being an NBA franchise. Not sure when you really started watching, but it took us 2 decades of misery with 3 Vince years to break things up in the beginning. This isn't even that bad, we've all just forgotten what it feels like to suck and be irrelevant - in part thanks to Masai.

"We just got Juan Dixon! Maybe he's the saviour?"

I'm totally aware of our franchises history but I'm also holding Masai to the same standard that his paychecks reflect as being one of the best execs in the game. My concern was that Masai had the 6'9 philosophical shift into Centers not mattering after 2020, which I've always thought was completely idiotic.

I'm just hoping that getting a legit backup C is the number 1 concern for this front office. There are a lot of pathways for me to be totally excited next year and am just hoping they don't screw it up.

Well said! It's gotten scary how alike our posts are gotten, I dread the day when we completely disagree lol.

Last night was a perfect example of size vs Barnes. Barnes looked TINY next to AD and to a lesser degree Lively/Gafford.

Mavs have those 3
Orlando has WCJ, Goga, and M.Wagner

We have Yak, Castleton....lol.

I think Goga is gettable since WCJ is starting and Wagner will be back from injury to replace him. And they still have Isaac for size.

Gradey+Port 2nd for Orlando pick(16).and Goga

Centers have been available all over the nba, it's just been Masai's lack of understanding on their importance. Most teams have better 3rd string Centers than we've had backup Centers for 5 years now. I'm sick of seeing Poeltl having a Jokic like importance to the team because of it lol.

Ochai is for real. Depending on who we draft and if he remains cheap I wouldn’t mind dangling Gradey and RJ at the deadline next season and see what happens.

Looking forward to watching the playoffs at this point, and setting this Toronto season behind us. Next year, man. A return to competitive basketball would be nice.

I'm interested to see if Masai does anything over the off-season, for sure. Even if he doesn't, though, even a modicum of health and introducing Ingram should be interesting enough.

Pretty sure the team is locked in. We lose boucher and our draft pick is added. We might even be slightly over the cap if We move up in the lottery. This is not gonna be a summer of signings and moves (aside from roster filling out stuff). The Ingram trade WAS the move. I don't think they do anything until they see how the new team gels.
