I wouldn’t put too much stock in the +/- of a tanking team.

He’d also be standing in the corner if Embiid is playing

Quentin Grimes' tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers draws parallels to Willie Green.

On April 4, 2007 Willie Green scored a career-high 37 points in a game. On April 15, 2007, Green then scored 26 points in a game against the Detroit Pistons. The 76ers signed Green to a six-year contract extension.

Willie Green, much like Quentin Grimes, was known for his tenacious defense, often matching up against some of the league's top guards and disrupting opposing offenses. He served as a reliable ball handler, frequently initiating offense and facilitating plays. Had the game not shifted towards perimeter shooting, Green's three-point shooting percentage might have been even more impressive. But hey, let's not dwell on the 'what ifs'—after all, he still managed a career-high 37-point game

Let's see the bright side, our Hakeem Olajuwon 2.0 may be hurt for life, but at least we found the next Willie Green!

Well, there’s also John Salmons, if you guys remember. Ayo Dosunmu is another player who mirrors his game, and he had a strong season for the Bulls.

On a related note, the best indicator that a scorer can reach an elite level is their combination of height-to-wingspan ratio (harden? Wade? Spida? Not so tall height allows mobility/shiftiness while wingspan allows them to play bigger to finish or shoot over defenders), athleticism, or simply height advantage. At the end of the day, it all comes down to how efficiently they can get their shot off over defenders. And that explains why Maxey is capped as a scorer and why McCain and Grimes will also likely (nobody can see the future) be capped too.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

Willie Green gave me hope...Then he tore his ACL.

Can't remember Willie Green being that much of a prolific scorer, like Grimes is proving now for 1/4th of a season.
What's interesting to me, is that his scoring is at good efficiëncy apparently (didn't dig into the stats).
Normally, players who suddenly get a lot of scoring opportunities and become a #1 option overnight, see a big drop in their efficiency.
Grimes not really it seems.

Think he could be a more than decent combo with Maxey

I don't think Grimes is much more than a tank commander (we are playing glorified scrimmages since he started putting up numbers) but I also think his contract should be tradable since the Nets are the only team that can overpay him. And if they end up trying some hijinks then let them be saddled with the contract.

I could very much seeing Grimes taking a one year 'prove it' deal on the advice of an agent as opposed to a below market level longer term deal, especially if it's here where he might have a real shot at starting.

Grimes eFG% was .573 with the Mavericks this season in 22 minutes. He's maintained that % (it's actually up slightly to .586) with the 6ers while getting 33 minutes per game. He's getting more opportunity, 10 extra minutes a game, and taken advantage of it. That's what we should all want from our young players.

Not suggesting he's a superstar in the making. But he's clearly a good young player who just needed to find the right opportunity.

Like Derrick White once he left San Antonio.

That might work better for us. I would rather see him in some competitive games before we offer big money.

While true he's maintaining efficiency on more volume, he's doing it in scrimmages and the only thing I think you can say is he's clearly on a higher tier than the G-league star/borderline end of roster NBA players he is sharing the court with. I don't think there's much more to takeaway than that. We will find out more next year when he is playing against teams fielding a rotation of actual NBA players who are trying to play defense. I will remain skeptical until then.

Grimes has gotten pretty consistent rotational minutes most of his young career. So we've already seen him do that. Carved out 22 minutes a night on a playoff caliber Dallas team before the trade and injuries derailed them. And started 66 games for Knicks team that won 47 games 2 yrs ago.
There's already plenty of evidence he's a rotation level nba player.

Sure, he's a rotation NBA player having some good games against mostly other rotation NBA player, bench warmers and G-leaguers.

The multi-million dollar question is: Grimes a good rotation player? Is he an significantly above average rotation player?

I'm not sold on that one.

He almost killed himself trying to compete with lonnie walker( who also shot well) for end of game shots garbage points. He's trying to paint himself as potential go 2 guy but it looks like a stretch from what I have seen. Definitely looks like a starting 2 though.

If I had to predict, we'll be able to bring him back on a contract worth $10-12 mil AAV.
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Edgecombe/Grimes/Gordon
George/Oubre/Edwards
Bona/Watford/Barlow
Embiid/Drummond/Broome

I think on a team where you don't touch the ball much, Edwards will prove to be more useful than Grimes. But on a team with a gimpy Embiid and disinterested George, Grimes will be more useful.

Obviously hope the roster is the first, but suspect it will be the latter.
