Davison's earned the opportunity, and he's a lot better than he's showed in his scattered NBA minutes so far. Once he gets comfortable we'll see how his skills translate.
Bill Chisolm passes his first mini-test as well.

I havent watched that much Davison on the Red Claws but it's soo apparent that at the NBA level he will get a 4 minute stint or 2 minutes or whatever and be trying so hard to seize the opportunity and also not mess up that he's completely twizzled in a mental quagmire. If he gets a little more of a chance, maybe he'll settle down his nerves.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow, maybe 25-30 JDD minutes. Something to look forward to for game 82, LETS GO!

Once Chisholm fires Brad + Joe and orders his new GM to cut costs all the way down, board favorites JD, Walsh, Queta, and Scheierman will get their opportunity as the starting unit of the 2025-26 Celtics.

Things he can do but hasn't showed yet in the NBA:
He's a highly productive passer, with a great knack for throwing the lob. If he does settle down and fits in, the centers will benefit from playing with him. He might be as good a passer as anyone on the roster.*
He's very crafty with the dribble, with change of speeds, and has a great first step. I've been waiting for him to blow by his man in the NBA but he hasn't even tried to yet.
That ability to penetrate keys his passing game.
He has a full arsenal of floaters and off balance finishes.
As he finally did show last night with the big dunk, he can fly.
*except he has baffling stints where he turns the ball over too much on even simple tosses.
I still have no idea if he'll actually make it in the NBA, but as you say, he's been mentally tight so far and has not shown his stuff.

Probably similar to Walsh’s was. Two years guaranteed with 2 years of team options or something like that. Starting at the league minimum edit: just saw most reporting is saying a two year deal. I think one year can be a team option?

Does he now have a guaranteed minimum contract for next season? If so, can we trade it this summer?

I think yes and yes.
Though I guess a question would be is this year 1 and next year 2?

My man!!
When I say I hoped, but thought he’d get passed over. I was so bummed and over it, he did what they asked and it all amounted to nothing… or so I thought.
Go head JD!! You earned it!! You may never become a regular NBA player, but you are already doing something so few people ever get to do! Enjoy this!! Try and make the most out of it. A lot of never-beens will try and belittle you, but don’t let them change how you feel about your accomplishment, you did it! REMEMBER you are an NBA player as far as history is concerned, no one can take that away, even if you never touch it’s courts again!

After the season, he's supposed to be RFA I think. But since he was on a two-way, they had the option to convert him to a standard contract using the minimum salary exception (max of two years) prior to season-end, which is what they did.

I'm guessing that it's the same end of season + one non guaranteed year contract that Queta and Hauser got after being promoted from their two ways. Expect them to rework it into a three year deal at the minimum with more significant guarantees in the offseason (again going off what happened with Queta and Hauser). Hopefully now that he has a real contract he can settle down and show what he can really do.

Yep.
Kornet was Converted too. Though he wasn't on a Two-Way, at the time.

Ah thank you for that reminder - was trying to figure out the benefit for the team doing the contract that way compared to the four year Hinkie special but that’s right they’ve done this pretty consistently this way.

Re: Welcome to Boston, JD Davison! – (Converted to Full-NBA on April 12, 2025)
via Dart Adams on bluesky: “The Boston Celtics rewarding JD Davison for his improvement since his draft day is dope. Also, salute the entire Boston & Maine Celtics coaching staff and their player development team for what they’ve done in the past 3 to 5 seasons. They don’t get NEARLY enough credit or praise from the league.”
I keep saying this. Player development and coaches haven’t gotten enough credit. Cs have developed their guys during Stevens’ tenure as POBO. They don’t necessarily have to see big club minutes from day 1 esp if they’re young and raw.

Re: Welcome to Boston, JD Davison! – (Converted to Full-NBA on April 12, 2025)
Jared Weiss
Bobby Manning
JD Davison said he found out he got his NBA deal when he was working out at the facility and Brad Stevens wanted to see him.
“I thought I **** up.”
Then he called his mom, who was crying.
“I know she’s been praying about it every day.”
Bobby Manning
Stevens told JD about the deal & told him he earned it.
"Hearing that from Brad is the dream"
"I'm trying to stay in the moment, listen to my mom, see's been trying to see how I've been feeling"
"My mom, she's been praying on it every day ... I just know she's super proud
JD: "I stayed down, stayed the course, I just kept my head down, put in the work and trusted God and it finally came true."
"I was definitely surprised. To get a contract with the Boston Celtics ... it's not easy ... I felt like it would come at one point and it finally came."
Davison, who we'll see play this afternoon, said he's trying to get comfortable adjusting to the #NBA: "The speed, the physicality, it's different, so I'm just trying to be me, not think about the mistakes."
"There are a lot of guys with the ball in their hand...so I just gotta adjust to that."
