I think the title of best player in the league is up for grabs if Jokic suffers another embarrassing early playoff exit.

People will suddenly realize how great SGA is if he wins a ring. Happened with Jokic and Giannis too, it's so annoying this has to happen

Who is going to take it?
SGA who lost in less games than Joker last year while being the 1 seed.
Or Giannis who has had a couple of rough playoffs runs in a row?

Re: 2024-25 NBA MVP Discussion Thread (Pt. 4: Who is the MVP?)
If Jokic loses in the first round and SGA has a dominant playoff run capped off with a ring+FMVP, I doubt many will keep ranking Jokic over him. Now of course, logically speaking, that doesn't necessarily mean he would be better than Jokic because a lot of that is circumstantial but that is how people rank players let's be honest.

I don't know if one is going to take it and be the unquestioned guy like Jokic is now. Rather I think we'll just refer to them as the elite 4 of Luka,Jokic,Shai,Giannis and on any given night those guys are the best in the league.
If Denver loses to say the Clippers in first round, a team who i believe Denver is more talented than, I just can't keep referring to Jokic as the unquestioned best guy in the league even though the stats are amazing. That coupled with the 20 pt choke game 7 loss to the Wolves last year will be enough to put the title up for grabs for me.

I agree it’s pretty fluid at the top but most of the guys who have held the number one spot have had multiple seasons in the top 3 and some pretty good playoff runs.
Is it better to choke in game 7 or lose in 6?

Thought experiment: when will this happen again, versus when will what SGA has done happen again?
2nd in rebounds
2nd in assists
3rd in points
1st in TS% added
2nd in steals
SGA is doing an MJ/Curry. Jokic's season is a one of one.

We're going to have a million stickied threads for the playoff and play-in matchups by the end of the day, so I am doing some spring cleaning and un-sticking other threads to prepare. This thread will of course remain open and active though, so feel free to still post in it.

Man just has to open your profile and see ur posts, to explain this horrible statement.
Best player on the planet, by far, just had his best season and not only his, had one of the best seasons in NBA history, and for sure the best season out of all players in last 5 years. Will not win MVP because its not individual award apparently.
Nuggets can get swept in first round and he is not losing his tittle as best player in the NBA, only in some dumb ESPN hot-take shows for couple of days maybe.
And the fact that you throw in that "another embarrassing early playoff exit" in that sentence for a guy who won a chip 2 years ago, and lost last year in semis in game 7 while his 2nd best player played on pulled hammy and gave whopping 18ppg on 40% FG% and 3rd best player had whopping 10ppg on 37% FG%...
This is not the first time you are calling him out for "emberrassing early playoff exit". You included the series against Finalist Suns where his starting backcourt was Facundo Campazzo and Austin Rivers. And he even won a series with those 2 starting vs the Blazzers delivering 33/10.5/4.5. And 2nd "embarrassing early playoff exit" u had against him was against champs Warriors where Nuggets starting lineup was Monte Morris/Will Barton/Jeff Green/Aaron Gordon and himself. Jokic had 33/13/6 on 64 TS% in that series.
You have to get your **** together man. Stop embarassing yourself, i know you hate the guy but cmn lets try to be at least semi-serious.

The award isn’t “Best Player in the league on Offense”.

Yeah best player in the world can't go out like that 2 years in a row if they lose in first round.
Sorry, but there was a time when LeBron was the best player in the world, and it automatically meant a finals appearance at the very least. If Jokic is who they say he is and he can't win a playoff series or two this year when OKC is really the only standout team in the conference, he won't be the unquestioned best guy.
Post your stats all you want, I don't care. Thats how I feel.

Lebron played decade against teams in the east that wouldnt make playoffs in the west... He had Dwayne wade and chris bosh next to him, then Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love, and competition was far worse. There is no chance Lebron is beating that last years Minny team with Cavs team after Kyrie left for example. But luckly he had baby celtics, Oladipo Pacers and Lowry/Derozan Raptors on the way to the finals... those teams wouldnt make playoffs in the west today...

Jokic would have made the Finals every year in that awful east easily.

Oh yeah that vaunted Minnesota team last year that Luka destroyed a week later. Yeah prime LeBron wouldn't beat them lol don't overrate them just because Jokic couldn't (and still can't apparently) beat them.
The fact is, Jokic hasn't done enough in the playoffs to be the unquestioned best guy if he keeps falling short. Giannis was the guy then he suffered some bad luck, bad losses in the playoffs and Jokic took it from him. Same thing will happen to Jokic if this year's playoff run ends in similarly disappointing fashion as last year.
