Board opinion: do we want to beat Miami?

Post#1 » by WindyCityBorn » Sun Apr 13, 2025 7:15 pm

I won’t cheer for a loss, but I wouldn’t be upset either. I think there is more to be gained from a higher pick than a first round exit. I have seen enough from our players that playoff series against Cleveland or Boston won’t change my evaluation of the roster.

What about the rest of you?

Isn’t the lottery odds set based on regular season record regardless of whether we get through the playoffs or not?

We want to beat Miami, then the next play-in game, then four 4-game series after that culminating in the NBA championship, for sure. And still pick 16th.

But yeah, if we don't make the first round, especially if we get into the top 4 in the draft, that would be pretty great too.

With this late season surge, we have a shot at picking #13 or 14 now. Would MUCH rather make the playoffs and pick 15th

Feel the same way. I can't be mad at NBA players being paid millions competing so I can't expect any of these guys to lay down and lose

But I've seen enough over the past couple months to determine that we have some players I'm ok with moving into the future with.

Coby, giddy, hueter, Collins, Jalen smith, matas, ayo, ball, are 8 guys I don't mind going on with. But that roster needs a star to take it somewhere significant. A top 3 pick in this draft could carry us ahead and we wouldn't have to wait years for it blossom. Hell even if we got a ,8 or 9 pick we could trade the pick plus Vuc and Patrick Williams and go after a star that might be on the move.

But making the playoffs getting killed by at best 5 to Cleveland or Boston and ending up with a 12th pick is about the worst case scenario here.

So I'll be watching might even be rooting as a fan cause I can't help myself but if we lose I wouldn't be that down about it.

No. I think we are locked at 15 if we make the playoffs.

Of course we want to beat Miami, the difference between pick 12 and pick 15 is nowhere near what it would mean for these baby bulls to have a playoff series against a great team.

Yeah, I misspoke when I said 16th, you're correct though. The lottery odds are by record for the 14 teams that don't make the real first round. And the other 16 teams draft by regular season record regardless of how they do in the playoffs. So the best scenario is winning the title and still picking 15th as the worst regular season record among the playoff teams.

Playoff teams aren't in the lottery.

Yeah. I just read up on it and you are right. Basically if you make it to the playoffs you are out of the lottery.

Yes? Season is already ruined. If you think from draft perspective. I mean last game of season and thread has 2 pages. That tells you enough how much apathy there is and dislike to this franchise and how they operate it.

Well those in favor of the 12 pick are hoping for the slim chance of moving up to the top 4 spots I’d say.

Scenario #1: we lose the first or second play-in game.
- Draft: #12
- Lotto Odds: 7.2%

Scenario #2: we win both play-in games
- Draft: #15
- Lotto Odds: 0%

I don't think the 12-15 draft order is a big difference, tanking matters almost entirely for the lotto and our odds are very low at this point.
Just let them play their best at this point.

That being said Atlanta won #1 last year as a play-in team that lost.

As a fan you don't root against your team for a 7% chance at a top 4 pick.

For some reason I thought we were at 10. Yeah basically no difference between 12 and 15 in the draft. It’s just the chance of getting lucky and moving into the top 4.

The only places we can draft are 1,2,3,4,12,13,14,15

Our best odds are 12, 15 and 13

Agreed, considering how vastly different this team has played since the trade deadline with a young core now and playing extremely well with so many new faces, you need to play to win.
