What a start for Felix Hernandez. He just one hit Boston to start the season with 17 innings pitched and only 4 hits with no runs.
Anybody knows how Mariners got him? Yahoo page is indicating that he was not drafted.

He's been heralded as the next big thing, the Mariners have been bringing him along slowly since they drafted him, apparently he's gotten superstar treatment the day he joined the big club, didn't have to do any of the stuff a rookie would to earn his spot. It was a formality.
There was a really good article (I should say section) in SI a while back titled "King Felix" I'll see if I can find it.
Edit: can't seem to find it, it was an in-print edition when I read it and this was last year...

As long as injuries don't derail him, with his age and his stuff, we're watching the start of a hall-of-fame career with this guy.

Nurse is below average at best.
Masai is overrated.

He came up 2 years ago and completely dominated the league in like the final 2 months. He has ridiculous stuff, high-90 fastball with lots of movement and a 12-to-6 curve.
Last year, he kinda took a step back as he came into camp out of shape, and he had a pretty disappointing year.
The mariners have brought him along slowly, watching his pitch count and whatnot, but I think this is the year he truly breaks out. I think he has the potential to be as good as pedro circa 1999. He is THAT good.

This kid is once in a generation special. Seriously, he's going to be Roy Halladay with more strikeouts.
