WNBA Draft Day 2025

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Mon Apr 14, 2025 1:07 pm

It's finally here!!!

You guys expecting any big surprises?
Why are we doing this on a Monday? Seems like Sunday evening (after all the NBA Games were played) would have been the perfect time to capitalize on all the NBA momentum.

Is this thing finally big enough to no longer be held in the conference room of a New Jersey Holiday Inn?

Does the WNBA draft normally go just as expected?

Love this image of the legends (and Angel Reese) welcoming in all the new blood.

Makes perfect sense. When Miles opted for TCU it bottomed out the end of the 1st round talent pool. The options were already a bit sparse for a team that didn't need much so with even less talent available they got out and will double up next year.

Wonder how much more the rookie scale minimum will be in the new cba. One potential advantage drafting this year vs next, especially if there are some players you like.

I wouldn't imagine the rookie salary would go up very much. Incoming rookie pay is usually the last thing a Players Union cares about in labor negotiations.

Even moreso for the WNBA compared to other leagues. The new CBA could be a seismic shift compared to new CBA deals in other leagues, and there are so few roster spots.

I agree that it made sense for MIN to trade the pick.

But I don't agree about the end of the 1st round talent pool. I think the end of the 1st round is the relative strength of this draft.
There are 15-18+ players that would make for a solid back end of the first round pick.

The weakness in this draft is that pick 4 probably isn't much better than pick 12.

I love Miles, but her shine fell off toward the end of the season. Whether it was Seattle or Chicago that would have ended up with her, I think Seattle will end up being ecstatic that they had to "settle" for Malonga, and Chicago will end up with 2 players of a similar caliber as Miles, IMO.

I'm so proud of Paige. Ever since I saw a random highlight reel show up in my YouTube feeds almost a decade ago of her cooking girls when she was like 16 I've been a fan of this resilient young woman and she's finally made it.

Dom Malonga is going to be the best talent in this draft and it's not even close. Lord have mercy

Malonga moves like an NBA wing. That is scary.

I'm at work so got the draft recorded. I haven't seen much of Malonga, what's the scoop on her?

She's 6'6.

She is very skilled. Great instincts on defense and runs the floor like a gazelle. Excellent soft touch.

She dunks and will in game.

Pro experience like Victor/Luka

She is not a center. She is a wing.

Seattle has their franchise player
