Always amazes me how far in advance fans obsess over the draft. Judging from this thread you’d think it happened 3 months ago, but in fact we’re on page 83 and STIL 2 WEEKS AWAY.
Spoiler:

I will say the odds of Giants picking him around the top of the second round is high as hell. They need the pick to quiet the chatter than the Giants dont have a future QB on the roster.
Just thinking on what they will do. If they pass on Sanders at 3...they can sure quiet the quiet the we need a future QB by selecting a qb at the top of the 2nd round or a trade back into the 1st round. It likely will be a reach but there are optics in play here with this regime that they haven't picked a QB yet.
As raw as Milroe is...they can sell belief and potential I feel.

Carter is so versatile my guess is on early downs he stands up like a backer like Micah...then on passing downs he moves to the edge.
I do think we need to draft another interior DL that can help Dexter especially in the run game...its a pretty deep draft on the interior DL in 2nd and 3rd round to get a quality player.
The way Sexy Dexy can't be singled on the interior an then on passing downs you have Burns and Carter on the edge...then you can shift KT inside in a NASCAR package like we use to with Tuck should give us the most disruptive DL in the NFL.
We know one or both of Carter/Hunter will be there for the Giants. No need to overthink it. But the mandate from ownership is still clear: get a future franchise quarterback.
After being invited to the draft green room it's pretty clear Milroe has fans we don't know about. I actually would love to draft him, and I think he goes higher than most of us think and the Giants won't even have the chance to draft him in the second round. So those who don't like his potential may get their wish. What does Schoen do? Because I think he's desperate enough to give up a 2nd, 3rd, and 5th round pick to get ahead of Pittsburgh for a quarterback. We're not getting a DT in that scenario, and his moves in free agency make it seem like he knows he might not be able to get that depth on the oline and dline. It's either build the team out or get the quarterback this draft. Which is why I don't like the Russell Wilson contract. Should've waited until after the draft...
if you are going to redshirt him you it also doesn't hurt to get the 5th year option (which only happens if you move back into the 1st round).
I heard McVay might have interest and just let him sit behind stafford for a couple years.
There certainly be convos...pick a developmental QB or pick a guy that can help right away at another position. There are internal and external factors like ownership and a fanbase starving for someone to be a solution at the QB position for the future.

Honest question. What do you think matters more? Having a good draft or making good free agency moves in the off season?
I guess it depends where the picks are.

Malik Willis was also perceived as maybe a 1st rounder, got invited to and went to the draft green room and he didn't get picked until the 3rd round... sometimes it might be the player that doesn't know

draft is always more important. it's hard to get superstars in free agency, and you certainly can't get an elite QB in free agency and you kinda need that to win a chip

Thanks for your thoughts.
For a team like Philly, signing Barkley was big, but they had a good draft too, so even that might not be a strong argument for free agency.
You're probably right, and . . . that's why we talk about the draft for so long.
In the NBA, I think good trades and free agency is more important, unless a team gets to draft a franchise player and even then, they need to build around that player.

Re: OT: NFL 24-25 Thread Cont'd
this is interesting.
Didn't the Giants have a private workout with JJ McCarty around easter last year as well? I wonder what they would need to see on this workout that they haven't seen already? Like Sanders has a really good body of work in college already, you would think there evaluation should be pretty much set a week before the NFL draft.
It could be for #3 or it could be how aggressive they want to be in a trade up scenario back into the 1st round (with there 2nd round pick and other assets) if they also have to compete with teams like the Browns in a trade up scenario.
Either way it will certainly be an interesting draft.

I doubt it would be to move back up.
Cost too high. also I’m confident you competing against other teams.
It’s like Ghetto said. You better off just Drafting him at 3 it’s makes more sense resource wise.

I’m good with Sanders and will root for anyone they draft. Either way Giants should do there due diligence. My biggest hold back is I dont really trust the front office and they might be fired by the end of the year. Maybe it’s ok if it gives the next group time to evaluate but dont want another Daniel Jones situation.
As far as Sanders, I really have no idea. Just about every qb in the draft seems like a crap shoot. Some def have better chances than others, it’s just a tough position to evaluate. He def has a chance to be good, but some flags like everyone else. He’s got the intangibles though. I mean a few months ago he would have been the obvious pick so maybe a lot of smoke screens.
A little surprising since they signed both Wilson and Winston. Maybe they even will consider trading back from #3, pick up some extra picks and grab Sanders later.

I get it.
My Stance is that if he hits we are straight for a decade plus.
So I’m willing take that risk even if his physical tools are not on the “ elite “ end.
If my options are Draft Carter and still have to look for a competent QB. I’m drafting SS every time.
As I said before. Hunter is the only player I would change my stance on that.

What do you define as "hit"? If he tops out at Geno Smith, does that count?
