He's not "really good." Just improved. Ginobili he ain't.

Some people just can't see it. This is exactly why I made the thread. Be sure to bump this if I'm wrong but I know I'm not.

yeah i've always felt like scheierman had the ability to be a quality nba starter, even when he was stinking up the joint early on. just a great feel for the game, can beat you in lots of ways, has a lot of nba-level skills.

but he also needs a lot of work and a lot of coaching. he needs to bulk up his body to defend the SF position and rebound better. he needs way more repeatability of mechanics when shooting (ala hauser). he needs a go-to high % offensive move, maybe a short fadeaway in the paint. and while i love his flair he needs to focus on making the simple play when it's the right play.

luckily all these things are coachable, and already he's improved a ton on these things since the start of the season which shows he's willing to listen. but it's still very inconsistent. when he puts it all together this guy will be an absolute steal at #30. but that is at least another year away and he probably won't hit full perform till his late 20's.

Reminds me of Avery Bradley's situation. Who went down to the G League for awhile.
And eventually took over as a Starter, for Ray Allen.

Sam's a top-20 3pt shooter in the league, so maybe he doesn't have to be quite that good. And maybe his trimming down lets him stay in more of a SG/combo guard role, at least for a while. Not sure he needs to limit his offensive repertoire to be more predictable. Seems like he's a quick study, so I'm really thinking he's largely got it together by next year's playoffs.

Really good is strong language.
He has outplayed his draft position so far.
27th in WinShares, top 15 in BPM. 22nd in LEBRON WAR.
Factor his age in though he isn’t a huge draft win or anything.
Hopeful he can settle in and be a solid rotation player.

As a career comp to Manu, no, but as a player type and athleticism I think it's a pretty good comp.

Check out Manu's Euro league stats (and Rico's college stats. Very similar.

One indicator turned out to translate very well into the NBA. The other is still up in the air.

Only 1st round drafted rookies who are in the playoffs and may very well get some decent minutes:

Risacher (Play in)
Holland
Edey (Play in)
Buzelis (Play in)
Knecht
Da Silva

Can Rico sneak in if the team continues to trust him?

Joe goes with an 8-man rotation in the playoffs, so I can't see Scheierman getting anything other than garbage-time minutes.

Best case scenario is the he is good enough for Celtics to trade Sam or PP. Given how good their salaries look and how good they look, I doubt that happens. I just don’t see enough upside. I do like him though.
"I think the criticism's stupid," Stevens said. "So I don't care. I'm with Jaylen (Brown) on that. Those two had achieved more than most 25 and 26 year olds ever had. I'd rather be in the mix and have my guts ripped out than suck."
