Wrong question

Why would we give up Dick for Mark Williams who is damaged goods?

Would you trade for Ja Morant?

Toronto gets: Ja Morant

Memphis gets: IQ and Ochai Agbaji

We are a team that needs shooting, this hurts that.

True but he has gravity and gets into the lane. Brandon Ingram into the starting lineup helps.

PG Morant - Shead - Ja'Kobe
SG Barrett - Ja'Kobe - Lawson
SF Ingram - Battle - Dick
PF Barnes - Mogbo - draft
C Poeltl - draft - Chomche

It's definitely not an ideal fit and I just have an extremely hard time picturing Masai & Co bringing in a guy like Ja with his "character" issues as a franchise that has always seemed to veer away from players without fairly clean backgrounds....personally yes I would especially if we could help him curve some of that and being up in Canada there's only so much supposed "thuggin" Ja could do.

But he's undeniable as a talent, MEM is literally one of the worst teams in the league without him and a Playoff team in the West with him. Ja, BI, Scottie & whichever top 8ish (or better) talent would certainly have the potential to become one of the best teams in the East. BOS would likely remain the favorites but still we'd be able to push anyone imo, not to mention become infinitely more popular as a franchise which is the part I'd love for these guys to get some attention/recognition. And how fun would be just as a fan to watch all those crazy dunks with BI skoolin dudes off the dribble nightly?! Buuuuuut I just don't see the FO taking a gamble on his off-court nonsense.

Good value but terrible fit. Moving IQ only makes the spacing concerns with Barnes/Ja even worse.

And this is before discussing the availability of Ja or his...let's go with off-court antics (that also happen on court from time to time).

People seriously saying no to Ochai and IQ for JA. Memphis hangs up the phone and blocks Masai’s phone line for a decade.

The Raps don’t need more depth guys for those trying to trade Gradey or other fringe guys. We need a consolidation trade. Giannis and Jokic are two guys you mortgage the future if they come available and that’s your highest chance of winning.

However, the biggest need on this team is a real point guard. Scottie and IQ getting assists doesn’t mean we have the ball movement solved. Kasparas is the guy you draft and you find a Cason Wallace type of guy to play next to him.

We also need a project C we can develop and take over Jak in 2-3 years time.

I'd Denver exits first round against Clippers, do you see Denver trading Jamal Murray and Raps being a trade partner?

I hope not.

He’s way too expensive, often injured and is in cruise control all regular season. Of course much love for the hometown boy and wish him success but he eats up way too much money, would cost us depth while simultaneously not always available himself and even then doesn’t play hard (pause) on a consistent basis.

Not worth it imo, I’d save our assets for a swing on a better player. No need to rush when we’re just getting started and it’s better “measure twice, cut once” because the new CBA plus the absorbent asset cost makes it where you better be sure that you’re big move is the right one.

I wonder if Desmond Bane is available. Memphis seems like a mess right now. Consolidating RJ + something to bring in Bane as our starting SG would be unreal

You miss having a figure of controversy on the team?
Kingsway_fan wrote:I'd Denver exits first round against Clippers, do you see Denver trading Jamal Murray and Raps being a trade partner?

Murray has shown he should not be your lead ballhandler and is better playing off of a guy like, say, Jokic or Shai. Even setting aside the contract, the injury history and him coasting in the regular season, he does not make sense as a trade target.

Meh, 67 games and he averaged 21 PTS 4 REB 6 AST 1.4 STL on 47/39/88 shooting in whats considered a down season. 24/4/6 on 49/44/91 in his last 20. We would be ecstatic if IQ could manage those splits. Hes played 65, 59, 67 games in the last 3 seasons which isn't that terrible considering IQ himself played 68 games last season and only 33 this year. Not to mention how high we know Jamal can get in the playoffs

Hes only 27 as well (IQ is 25) and is much more accomplished with a higher ceiling a floor than IQ. We know Denver needs more rotation players and swapping IQ and Ochai and/or a combo of Dick/Mogbo/picks to get Murray would be a high reward bet on a guy people are way to down on (similar to Ingram). Depends on what else if anything Denver asks for but they may bite depending on how these playoffs go. There's reporting that they do not want to consider trading MPJ so the next big move they can make to get more pieces is moving Murray. I understand reservation on Murray but I don't think trusting IQ for another 5 years is a better option. I think its more likely Murray makes an all nba team than IQ ever making an all star team

Murray, RJ, Ingram, Scottie, Poeltl is a formidable starting 5. Decent enough spacing, and scoring is much upgraded between Murray and Ingram. Murray is also used to playing off ball which helps if we want Scottie on ball next year. The trade definitely raises the ceiling of the team and Murray is someone we can realistically expect to stay in Toronto. Don't see why we couldn't be a top 4 seed with a chance to advance in the playoffs depending on how much Scottie can improve.

We would be a over the cap team but there are more moves that can be made as well for cost savings like moving RJ which may viable depending on how much Walter can improve by next deadline. With all of Scottie, Ingram, Murray, (sans Poeltl) locked in, we can also look to the rising salary cap to give us breathing room as the years go on.

If I'm correct, we are about 8-10m under the luxury tax. Are we able to throw small contracts at guys like Luke kornet, Andre Drummond, Jaylin Williams, capela, Steven Adam's. All are decent back up bigs if can be had for under 7-8m. And they can all spot start in case jak gets injured

Jaylin could be a value play. He has had some really good stretches this season and has a stretch five game with strong passing.

I also like to ignore the part where he's putting up these stats while playing next to Jokic aka. not as the lead ballhandler. He's not putting this up with increased attention from the defense and we've seen that Murray does not do well without the Joker or in scenarios where there's greater pressure as "The Guy™" for a team's backcourt in the regular season.

Quickley is also having a down season compared to last year's time as the lead ballhandler with 17/4/6 and his splits are very similar at 42/38/87 with, to be frank, more upside as the lead guard assuming we don't land Harper in the draft.

And unlike Jamal, Quickley's durability has never been in question outside of this season as he's played 70+ games in every other season aside from the CO-VID shortened bubble where he still eked out 64 games whereas Jamal Murray missed around a season and a half plus addition time each season since 2021. Put another way, I have more confidence Quickley will be able to stay on the floor and deliver than I do Jamal.

As an aside but even if we were to agree on Murray being a ceiling raiser...why wouldn't Denver just trade MPJ and stuff for a star to contend with Jokic/Star/Murray or try to cobble together a 2:1 with Saric + Zeke for a depth piece(s) instead of, as you're suggesting, lowering their own ceiling by trading for IQ?

Don’t think we necessarily run our offense through IQ and I heavily disagree that IQ would be close to as good as Murray in the same role on this team. This is like when people were saying Gary was 70% of D. Mitch in the period before he was traded to the Cavs

I disagree. I don’t see IQ being a championship level starting pg. His defense is subpar, his scoring within the 3pt line is also mediocre. Hasn’t shown the greatest ability to score without screens in isolation, especially against good defenders

Murray is 27 without any major chronic injury that where an injury should be baked into his seasons going forward. I also don’t think this Raptors team needs a “lead guard” to table set. We’re among the highest assist teams in the NBA and don’t necessarily run our offense through the PG

There has been reporting that the Nuggets ownership will not trade MPJ due to his ties with Missouri. Weird but it’s out there. They also were reluctant to immediately max Murray and held the contract until the beginning of the year.

I've mentioned Luke Kornet before and he's an analytical beast. 4 years $30 million. With this signing, Poeltl should be making less on his next contract, if not then trade him.

No thats not correct, we have zero room under the luxury tax basically due to our pick caphold
