He also shares the court with some of the worst defensive personnel in the league and has to do most of the heavy lifting by his lonesome...
So did Alex Caruso last year yet he was Top 3 in Defensive EPM and was really good the past 3 seasons, even including his Chicago Bulls seasons.
His 3-year RAPM defensive rankings the past 5 seasons: 4, 1, 1, 2, 3
Defensive Darko: Ranked 9-35 the past 6 seasons
Daniels is still far below this, and most of these statistics take into account teammates level (to varying degrees) in order to apply impact.
At the end of the day, no matter how you slice it, Daniels is having a historical defensive box-score season while struggling to put a high-end defensive imprint on the basketball court. Great player, but DPOY is an award about best defender, not most steals.
DeAndre Jordan is another player who had incredible Rebounding/Block numbers but was not a good defensive player. He likely is a great paralell for Dyson. DeAndre Jordan finished Top 5 in DPOY voting for 3 consecutive seasons yet was never anything close to resembling a Top 10 defensive player in the NBA, just like Dyson.
