Even as a Piston fan I'd completely forgotten Tayshaun was on that team.

Maybe just from 2008 onward?

Yeah I like that. We haven't done a game with a shorter time frame in a while.

The sad thing is that if you start with the 2008-09 season (the first season AFTER the Olympics) the Pistons bring virtually nothing to the table in terms of the draft board.

Though I dunno if you start with the 2007-08 or 2008-09.

Was thinking 2007-08

Another possible category is LeBron teammates (both were). DPOY candidates and scoring leaders are sure to be stacked.

Maybe also at least 6 teams traveller.

I would eliminate the top scorer and DPOY categories and replace with Dwight and Melo teammates before I'd do that. jmo

I'd like to see a pure 2025 game. I think there are enough alphas.

Jokic
SGA
Giannis
AD
Luka
LeBron
Tatum
Curry
Durant

Butler
ANT
Trae
Hali
Victor
Mitchell
Booker

We do that every year don't we? I think it would normally be starting around now with the regular season over.

I like the timeframe to timeframe games. Maybe a dream team game? 92’ until when? MJ retired the first time? Second time?

Could just go up to the Redeem Team year (1992-2008).

Yeah I think so. If anyone wants to run it feel free to do it. Won't hurt my feelings. :D

I checked this idea. Might be a bit too tough honestly.

Another thing we can do that we did in previous years is pair drafts of franchises cross standings according to 2024-25.

East cross standings: Cavaliers - Wizards, Celtics - Hornets, Knicks - 76ers, Pacers - Nets, Bucks - Raptors, Pistons - Bulls, Magic - Hawks, Heat - Heat

West cross standings: Thunder - Jazz, Rockets - Pelicans, Lakers - Spurs, Nuggets - Trail Blazers, Clippers - Suns, Timberwolves - Mavericks, Warriors - Kings, Grizzlies - Grizzlies

Georgetown legends - franchises for the Georgetown hall of famers: Ewing Mourning Iverson Mutombo.

That is, Knicks Seattle Orlando Miami Charlotte Brooklyn Philly Denver Detroit Memphis Atlanta Houston.

I think it forms an interesting pool.

Top end talent would be: LBJ Jokic Hakeem Shaq Durant Wade SGA Harden Butler Tracy Penny Dwight Paul Allen Barkley Hill Ewing Mourning Kidd Isiah Billups Payton Kemp etc.

If we go further back than the usual 90s, we add guys like: Wilt Erving Moses Reed Frazier Lanier.

Speed draft
Pick a time frame
Pick couple rules

Pick a day
Pick a time
We complete the draft in 2 hours or less
No time to research or think

Trade draft

Pick time a frame
pick some rules

after the draft is completed, you have to make 2 trades.

FGA's do not count during the trading period.

rosters get set. same as normal after that.

The Gregg Popovich Draft

- One player who only played for a single franchise
- One player who was active during both lockout-shortened seasons (1998-99 and 2011-12)
- One Spur
- One player each from the Knicks, Nets, Pistons, Cavs, and Heat (Pop's Finals opponents)

Only seasons in which Pop coached (1996-97 to 2024-25) eligible

Any convenient way to get a list for the second category?

OK just wrote a script to calculate this based on basketball reference. Looks like the 99'-12' intersection has only 32 guys, sounds a little borderline for a whole category.

Those guys are:

You don't think 32 players is enough for a category? I see a lot of guys regularly taken in these. Some also occur in other categories but there would be a premium on this category.

I'm sure another category could be used. Could simply have a category for players who have retired within the last x number of years, or players who have played in at least 3 different decades. There's a wealth of alternatives. Just takes a little imagination.

I like it!

That’s an unusual season- the level of play was generally lower because the season was rushed- there’s not many “peak” years. Malone was MVP despite underwhelming stats. It’ll force some drafters to at least look at off brand years.

I said I’d take a break but if this is the next game I guess that break only lasted one competition.
