Cade’s defense is entirely dependent on his assignment, which is why it’s really nice to start Ausar in case we need him for POA defense.
Cade has learned a lot in three years. He’s generally attentive, he’s definitely tall and long for a guard, and his strength has reached at least average for his position. He can easily guard guys like Haliburton, Brunson, old Lillard, Herro, and many others.
Bujt when you talk about guys with elite first steps, particularly smaller ones with a real speed advantage, Cade isn’t very good at all. Mitchell, Fox, Lavine, those kind of guys, he needs to be switched off for Ausar, who can keep up with literally anyone.
I don’t think he’s a defensive problem going forward with the other guys we have, which is good. I do think Ivey’s going to need to improve a ton on defense when he returns, because he can’t seem to handle the bigger guys or the faster guys, which is going to cause some matchup problems we don’t have right now. That Beasley is a better defender than Ivey is really telling. And THJ is the worst of all — all he can really do is try to funnel guys in the right direction and hope the bigs don’t get in foul trouble. :/
