Towns and Anunoby both with over 30

Brunson still rusty, Bridges and Josh good but not great games

Enough for a win

AI on how the Knicks should defend Cade

To effectively guard Cade Cunningham, the Knicks need to employ a team effort, focusing on making it difficult for him to score and limiting his opportunities to make shots. This involves a combination of different defensive strategies, including individual defense, switching on pick-and-rolls, and potentially using traps. The Knicks should also aim to disrupt Cunningham's base tough shot-making and limit his ability to attack the rim.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of how the Knicks can approach guarding Cunningham:

1. Team Defense and Switching:
Collective Effort:

It's unlikely that any single Knicks player can completely contain Cunningham, so the team must work together to make it difficult for him to score.

Switching on Pick-and-Rolls:

The Knicks should be prepared to switch on pick-and-roll plays, allowing their players to match Cunningham's attacking tendencies.

Different Looks:

The Knicks should vary their defensive schemes to keep Cunningham guessing and prevent him from getting into a rhythm.

2. Individual Defensive Assignments:
OG Anunoby:

Anunoby is likely to be the primary defender on Cunningham, but he should not be expected to guard him alone.
Focus on Getting Cunningham to the Left:

The Knicks may try to force Cunningham to take contested shots on his left side, as he is more comfortable shooting with his right.

Limit Three-Point Attempts:

The Knicks should focus on contesting Cunningham's three-point attempts and making him work for open shots.

3. Specific Defensive Tactics:

Disrupt Base Tough Shot-Making:
The Knicks should focus on disrupting Cunningham's ability to make tough shots, forcing him to take less efficient shots.
Make Cunningham Work at the Point of Attack:

The Knicks should make Cunningham work for every possession, forcing him to make tough decisions and avoid getting easy buckets.

Be Physical:

The Knicks should employ a physical defensive approach, making it difficult for Cunningham to get to the rim and forcing him to make contested shots.

Traps:

The Knicks may use traps on pick-and-roll plays to further limit Cunningham's scoring opportunities.

4. Other Considerations:

Cunningham's Playmaking:
The Knicks should also focus on limiting Cunningham's impact as a playmaker, particularly on offensive plays.
Cunningham's Skillset:

The Knicks need to understand that Cunningham is a versatile player who can do a variety of things on offense.

Limit Second-Chance Opportunities:

The Knicks should focus on rebounding effectively to prevent Cunningham from getting second-chance opportunities.

Cade is only in the 47th percentile in isolation and scores a measly .88 PPP in ISO. He also shoots 33% on pull up threes and his 56% FG in the restricted area is lackluster.

If Thibs treats him like a Curry/Jordan clone and is fine with leaving Malik and THJ wide open the lobotomy needs to be scheduled at halftime.

I think that the Pistons will try and attack Brunson at every opportunity.

Thibs literal job is to create a pathway to hide Jalen at times by not having him overexposed in the P&R action. I can live with Tobias posting Brunson on the block for a few possessions so long as their shooters never get into a proper rhythm. Issue here is that you’re asking Tom to be proactive and creative on the fly but he’s a very stubborn individual.

The team winning 1st game of series usually wins the whole series, so the team better treats it like game7.

I can live with Cade making contested twos if we don't surrender wide open threes. That's where things get dicey and Tom doesn't care about defending the 3 point line.
