Lowe's saying "KAT has had an absolutely magnificent all around offensive season", and Mo Dakhil dude echoing the sentiment "everything the Knicks wanted when they traded for they got from KAT, I don't know the expectations could be anything else, they got exactly what they expected from KAT this season"

Uhhh... KAT didn't shoot as many 3s as he would have made us lethal, yes he scored everything else, but we brought him in to spread the floor, to be the 3 pt threat and he turned in career lows in 3pt attempts, he's not aggressive in moments he needed to.

And they're saying we should be spamming JB - KAT pick n roll...

Were they really watching us all season??? JB - KAT pick n roll is NON EXISTENT, we can count with 1 hand how many times it happened ALL SEASON

---

On our defense, Lowe saying "for all the Knicks' defense crap, they finished 13th, they are not a bad defensive team", then Mo: "I don't know if you can be a bad defensive team when you have Bridges, OG, and Hart... those are 3 good defensive players".... uhhh we repeatedly played drop coverage, and rotation was not nearly consistent... we ranked DEAD LAST in 3pt defense allowing wide open 3 after another in key moments vs teams above .500, ESPECIALLY the top 3 teams, we're getting MURDERED by the Isaiah Joes, Aaron Wigginses, Malik Beasleys

DID THEY WATCH US AT ALL, or just making general comments like "I don't know if you can be a bad defensive team when you have Bridges, OG, and Hart"???? Uh yes WE CAN

Watching the Heat dismantle the Bulls right now is precisely the reason why I have no faith in this team. Coaches like Spo always have their teams ready and up for big games. They also have a very good understanding of how to counter game plans and aren't afraid of getting creative. All great attributes of a coach to have in a playoff series. Unfortunately Thibs doesn't possess a single one of these characteristics.

Our ceiling this season may be Thibs, but that has one silver lining. It puts the burden of proof of performance directly on to our players. They have to play up to their talent level, not beneath it.

I believe our talent level is high enough to be in contention NOW if they all show up and execute.

Granted, a good coach matters a great deal, but there's enough talent here now to handle Detroit and challenge Boston.

I'm not overly confident about anything, but I know the seeds of triumph exist within this roster. Since our coach is basically useless they will have to grow that vision themselves and do it immediately.

we dealt depth. and i get the argument about developing the bench more with PT. but that also negates what kind of preparation is happening off the court that we don't see.

shamet just wasn't healthy. we're getting a taste of what he's really about and has done.

kolek is a good example of that notion. mans was a disaster on defense in those first minutes he got. by the time he got back on the floor a bit late in the season, we saw he was handling the rotations and point of attack a LOT better. still not great, but it was abysmal to start. and i was concerned about that in college. (this is coming from someone who LOVES kolek, spent hours watching him in Marquette hoping we would draft him, still see him as a perfect backup PG for brunson going forward, and scared my neighbors with how loud i yelled when we got him in the second round.)

True. We saw that with Hukporti as well. Dadiet not so much. McCullers looks like he could be “situational”. With Payne and Wright, I don’t see Kolek getting any burn but his defense did improve from the beginning of the season to the end.

Congrats on achieving your doctorate. Lots of work. Must feel good.

Thanks, Wingo. Actually still working. Maybe weeks from done though. I’ll give the official word when it’s turned in.

Agreed. Hukporti was awful on rotations. Looks like they took him in the lab for a bit and he was much better when he re-emerged. He looked damn near ready to back up Mitch before he got hurt. Would have been a nice luxury for the playoffs.
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

One of the things that made an impression on me at that age was seeing how neighborhoods in the city could change on a dime. I went to public school on the UWS so my friends were white and black and puerto rican. As a six year old I'd walk the whole city by myself. Not sure a parent would let their kids do that these days, but I only had a few hassles. I would walk up Broadway past Columbia U. and down the hill until Morningside Heights hit 125th Street. When I walked down 125th it felt far more epic than any other street in the city, including Times Square which was a completely depraved chithole back then. But I would never go North of 125th. I didn't know if I could venture further as a little kid so I'd turn around and walk back home.

On the other side of town I knew a rich family that lived on 90th and Park Avenue in an apartment full of marble floors and counters. And I would take the bus across Central Park back home if it wasn't daylight and I couldn't walk home through the park. I always had this intense feeling looking down the hill from 96th and Park into Spanish Harlem. It was such a stark divide between neighborhoods at that time. I never explored that part, just stared into it. Gentrification may have erased some of these divides since then, but they seemed like lines in the map at the time.

this roster went 51-31 with just talent alone and in spite of all the hindrances. Some small fixes here and there would work wonders

That's why I feel good about our upside without feeling confident about predicting anything.

This team desperately needs a new coach, but I still believe it is possible to do something special this year in spite of Thibs.

But we could also flame out if our guys don't play cohesively in which case getting outcoached is a distinct possibility.

Since I have no conviction how these playoffs will turn out, I'm not going to get too up or down about the outcome unless they beat Boston.

AI on how the Knicks should defend Cade

To effectively guard Cade Cunningham, the Knicks need to employ a team effort, focusing on making it difficult for him to score and limiting his opportunities to make shots. This involves a combination of different defensive strategies, including individual defense, switching on pick-and-rolls, and potentially using traps. The Knicks should also aim to disrupt Cunningham's base tough shot-making and limit his ability to attack the rim.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of how the Knicks can approach guarding Cunningham:

1. Team Defense and Switching:
Collective Effort:

It's unlikely that any single Knicks player can completely contain Cunningham, so the team must work together to make it difficult for him to score.

Switching on Pick-and-Rolls:

The Knicks should be prepared to switch on pick-and-roll plays, allowing their players to match Cunningham's attacking tendencies.

Different Looks:

The Knicks should vary their defensive schemes to keep Cunningham guessing and prevent him from getting into a rhythm.

2. Individual Defensive Assignments:
OG Anunoby:

Anunoby is likely to be the primary defender on Cunningham, but he should not be expected to guard him alone.
Focus on Getting Cunningham to the Left:

The Knicks may try to force Cunningham to take contested shots on his left side, as he is more comfortable shooting with his right.

Limit Three-Point Attempts:

The Knicks should focus on contesting Cunningham's three-point attempts and making him work for open shots.

3. Specific Defensive Tactics:

Disrupt Base Tough Shot-Making:
The Knicks should focus on disrupting Cunningham's ability to make tough shots, forcing him to take less efficient shots.
Make Cunningham Work at the Point of Attack:

The Knicks should make Cunningham work for every possession, forcing him to make tough decisions and avoid getting easy buckets.

Be Physical:

The Knicks should employ a physical defensive approach, making it difficult for Cunningham to get to the rim and forcing him to make contested shots.

Traps:

The Knicks may use traps on pick-and-roll plays to further limit Cunningham's scoring opportunities.

4. Other Considerations:

Cunningham's Playmaking:
The Knicks should also focus on limiting Cunningham's impact as a playmaker, particularly on offensive plays.
Cunningham's Skillset:

The Knicks need to understand that Cunningham is a versatile player who can do a variety of things on offense.

Limit Second-Chance Opportunities:

The Knicks should focus on rebounding effectively to prevent Cunningham from getting second-chance opportunities.

They weren't really. Thibs makes them more likely all the time. Even if you look at this season there have been 5 guys playing a lot of minutes: JB and OG both missed 4-5 weeks so they already "had their injuries" and hopefully are going to be fresher for the playoffs. Bridges is the one that pretty much avoids all contact and has had a lot of low intensity games and seems to be pacing himself a lot to get through the season.

The other two guys playing a lot of minutes---HARt and KAT---really haven't looked anywhere close to the level of play they had at the beginning of the season. Both are said to be playing on gimpy knees and their effectiveness has dropped noticably.

A lotta these dudes that cover the league don't watch games to the level of detail that fans do.

Congrats on achieving your doctorate. Lots of work. Must feel good.

Hukporti for me was a prime example of why I started to dislike Thibs throughout this season. Hukporti IMO showed enough to be deserving a consistent 20minutes a game, especially considering the fact that for many games Mitch AND Achiuwa were both out longterm. Huk showed solid ability on defense, some touch on offense and a lot of energy.

You left out Sims. That was the most egregious one.

The nonsense to me was that Thibs gave Sims those backup minutes. As no one could find basketball reasons as to why Sims would play, some Thibs defenders suggested it may be to increase his trade value. If true that must have been a complete misjudgement of Sims worth around the league. Then they traded him for Wright. While this trade proved to be useful as Wright played some solid games, we all know that if it wasn't for the Brunson injury he would not have sniffed the court. So in essence Thibs gave those minutes away to Sims whom they traded while Hukporti all the time looked like the better player already. Utter nonsense really. But that's who Thibs is.
