Daryl Morey, Nick Nurse Likely Have 'Hottest Seats' In NBA

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Apr 15, 2025 9:04 pm

The Philadelphia 76ers swiftly retained both Daryl Morey and Nick Nurse for the upcoming season, but the team will need to bounce back significantly in order for them to continue beyond the 25-26 season.

"I was mildly surprised," said Brian Windhorst on the Stephen A. Smith Show about the Sixers continuing to back Morey and Nurse. "But heard that ownership was on board and and agreed with and endorsed signed off on the moves that they made last year."

The Sixers signed Paul George in free agency and also signed Joel Embiid to a massive extension. Embiid suffered from a right knee injury throughout the season, which derailed their chances of competing.

"So I think they are giving [Morey] the grace that this was a terrible year in terms of injury and misfortune. But what I would say to both Daryl and Nick is you have no margin for error now. If next year isn't an excellent year, you're gonna...

"That's probably, I would say, the hottest seats in the NBA right now looking into next year. We got to see how the season ends [with playoff teams], but right now the hottest seats in the league are probably Daryl and Nick Nurse."

Blaming anything on Nurse would be soooo unfair... a different could be Morey, whose signing of George is not deserving of a cum laude in basketball managing, no...

Good. Both of them should be on the hot seat, and not simply for on court reasons either.

IMO, if they lose their pick and don't make the ECF next year the Sixers should clean house and retool with (pick one) Maxey or McCain.

Paul George had an excellent season last year.. This year he obviously was injured.. Clippers were going to sign him just not to the max and 3 or 4 years not 5.. PG was trash this year and the signing looks terrible and will continue to be if he doesn't get right for next season but I suspect he will.. None of that works though if Embiid is not healthy.. I dont think moving Morey makes the slightest bit of difference.. I would not be trading any picks though in the off season I would hold on to everything and see if the guys can get healthy.. If they can't well it's gg anyway..

It’s all about health of Embiid and George. Everyone knew both of them are always hurt, and George is getting old. Sixers will be screwed for a few more seasons if both are out. I’d keep Morey and just pivot by tanking and rebuilding with them out.

Hot seat? It's a four alarm fire in Philly.

Even with a healthy Embiid and George, which come on, isn't going to happen, how competitive will they be? First Round playoff team at best...maybe.

It might be time for people to give Harden his flowers. PG had the most efficient season of his career when Harden arrived. When PG left LAC didn't miss a beat, with Powell stepping right into PG's shoes. PHI had no PF and were light on playmakers. PG is not great at generating his own offense. It was a terribly constructed roster.

There's this thing players do when something is about to come up, they do their very best to stay healthy, play more, they ball out, the players do a lot in this said year, right before returning right back to the player they've always been, I wonder what that year could be called.

I'm sorry, did Nurse push for the signing of Pandemic P? Did he give the okay for Embiid, an injury-prone center, to play in the Olympics? Did Nurse tell ownership to extend Embiid? Right now, the only person on the hot seat is Morey.

Give who flowers? I'm not sure how this became a No. 13 conversation but no.

Actually Philly just clean house now, so you can be on the decline to the bottom. Ya'll not getting anyone better than Nick Nurse; Embiid's trade value is dirt poor, and Pandemic P is washed up, and Maxey is just electric 6th man, playing a starter's role.

If you can't acknowledge that PG had a big bump in efficiency playing next to Harden, that's on you... but Morey should have seen it, Harden's his (former) dude!

Nurse has been pretty s***** all around for two years regardless. And if Morey goes, he goes anyway. Their fates are intertwined.

Also, you're very defensive of Nurse for some weird reason. Family member?

I'm not being defensive, I'm just pointing out the obvious here.

I hear you that this is mostly on Morey. That being said, Nurse certainly has not made any chicken salad out of chicken****, either. And he was supposed this "mad scientist try anything" kind of coach. And we have not seen that at all. They're getting another year. So we'll see how this one goes.

Nick Nurse is a solid coach, and I was a bit disappointed because he's had lesser talent and done more.
