It certainly convinced me that the FO should explore trading him in the offseason. Count me in on deals bringing back 2 1sts. I'm not in the sell at any price place because there is room for continued improvement and we have a full year to really evaluate him before the market sets his price.
It is hard to say who is a SG these days, but I put him around 15th among starting SG's. That's up probably 10 spots from last year, but his defense is still toward the bottom. Also, his 3 ball is still streaky and his ability to score in the paint seems good against bad teams and bad against good teams.
I agree, although I don’t know what a realistic return on Coby would be since other teams would likely be wary of contract issues just like the Bulls might be. Honestly, I think the best course may well be to play a bit of hardball come contract time, and be prepared to let him walk.
What the recent recurrence and reinforcement of the inconsistency and offensive struggles against teams with good interior defense has reinforced to me is that (1) Coby White, while a good NBA player, is more a high end 6th man / lead bench scorer (a la Jordan Clarkson) than lead team scorer, and, relatedly (2) that means that in this draft, if there is a guy who could be a lead scorer from one of the two guard spots (with Giddey playing the 3 or 4 defensively), that has to priority #1. You can get defensive centers and 3&D wings other ways than lead scoring guards.i think a guy like Jace Richardson has to be in consideration, for instance.
