Vuc-Kuminga

Post#1 » by pipfan » Fri Apr 18, 2025 3:49 am

Not sure on this, S&T Kuminga for Vuc/Port pick?

GS gets another vet, might look really good with Green/Curry/Butler, and he expires next summer, plus they add a pick

Bulls roll the dice that Kuminga can be a starter (and could potentially be burned by 2 overpaid young forwards with PWill)

White/Ayo/JCarter
Giddey/Ball/Terry
Matas/Huerter/Phillips
Kuminga/PWill
Collins/Smith
Plus the #12 pick

Gsw should do it without the pick, but problem is Kuminga is BYC and they dont have a lot of extra matching salary.

A kuminga for jalen smith deal is probably more feasible

In the other Kuminga thread I mused about Chicago going for him. I feel like if given the opportunities he craves, he will smother the development of Buzelis. I am not convinced that he will play winning basketball if he is given those opportunities, while Matas looks like he has a game that contributes very positively.

The Bulls organization is terrible at developing young players. Kuminga isn’t the type of guy who improves in Chicago.

It's a good point-I'm not sure if Chi should do this. Kuminga obviously has talent, and we'd have a super-athletic pair of starting forwards with Matas and Kuminga. The new-look Bulls run a ton and share the ball-should be opportunities for all (now, if Kuminga is worth rolling the dice on is another question)

How much you willing to pay kuminga? Rumours were he asking $30m!

Not asking. He turned down 30M. His asking price started at 35M per.

Oh wow really?! Surely no one is paying him that

Horrible proposal, hence there's a fair chance Bulls actually do it.

Vuc just isn't very interesting. Unless he's in an unsustainable hot shooting stretch (as he was earlier in the season) his defense gives back any positives he brings on offense. Overall a backup quality center making $21M, which is significantly overpaid. As an RFA leaving I'd hope for at least positive value in a deal for GS. Vuc by himself isn't positive value, and I'm not sure the Portland pick is valuable enough to get there.

Of course BYC issues and the Warriors already high payroll make the logistics awkward.

The only Chicago center I'd have interest in is Smith. Perhaps if the bottom falls out of the Kunminga FA market he could sign cheap enough to make a deal with Smith as the return.

Yes Vucevic needs to be hot, 18-11 shot 40% from three maybe he can work on that.

There's no sane reason for the Bulls to trade $10M a year Smith who is a solid player for the $35M long tern gamble that Kuminiga has been shackled in GS and those DNP CD are just an anomaly. The Bulls can just play Smith at the 4 and have him as a backup 5 and spend that $25M on somebody else.

Bulls offer Kuminga around 4/80?
I thought GS could trade doing this-but I've seen someone say BYC would block it.

I think GS would like Vuc for a year-solid pro, plays nightly, very good on offense and strong defensive rebounder. Sets good screens too

All this really does for me is keep the salary slot open for a potential future trade, and if that's all we're getting, I'd probably just match JK and then shop him between December 15 and the deadline.

Post does ~75% of what Vuc does at this point in his career and he costs 1/10th as much
