KD to the Knicks

Post#1 » by Saberestar » Fri Apr 18, 2025 11:52 am

Suns trade: KD ($54.7M).

Knicks trade:

OG Anunoby
Mitchell Robinson
Tyler Kolek
(All three players $54.7M)
+
2030 unprotected FRP
2026 Pistons FRP (Top 11 protected, Top 9 protected 2027, 2nd if not converted)
Three 2nds.

Why for the Suns?
Ishbia wants defense and grit on the new Suns roster and Anunoby is a Top 10 defender in the league. Mitchell Robinson when healthy Top defensive C.

The Suns add a young player with some upside in Kolek and some decent draft capital.

Why for the Knicks?

KD loves New York and he agrees to sign a 2-year extension with the Knicks. He provides an upgrade over Anunoby and the Knicks would be serious contenders for next year with a terrific starting 5.

Brunson, Mikal, Hart, KD and KAT.

*The Suns need to be under the 2nd apron to make legal this trade. They could get there not picking team options over Micic, Cody Martin, Nick Richards and one more move (Beal, Royce, Allen...).

Edit: The Knicks can't trade any FRP. This trade offer was a mistake. The Suns need picks, this trade doesn't make sense for them.

OG and MitchRob is enough value, no need for picks IMO

Too many concerns about their health. Some picks are needed to balance the value.

KD is almost 37 y/o, he's as fragile as anyone in this league, and Knicks need the assets to get a center.

I would rather have OG straight up next season.

Every place that I have seen say that they have those picks available for a trade. Can you give any link with that particular info about Knicks future picks?

What place are you looking at? Knicks traded 29 + 31 1st to brooklyn so 2030 cant be traded per stepien rule.

Detroit first was traded to minny in the towns trade and will convey this year so Detroit owns their own 2026 1st

Oh, crazy.

So the Knicks doesn’t have any FRP available for a trade? That changes everything. My bad.

The only "1st" they have to trade at the moment is the protected Wizards pick (Top 10 protected in 2025, top 8 in 2026) that has a good chance of becoming a 2026 and a 2027 2nd unless the Wizards take a big leap next year or the Knicks get some luck in the lottery.

Personally as a Knicks' fan I don't love the idea of adding a 37 year old KD to a team that hasn't shown it is close to competing with the top teams in the league yet. They already have defensive issues as a whole. This trade doesn't help.

Offensively it adds another great individual talent but JB and KAT haven't really built any chemistry together in a full year and still feel like 2 separate entities generating their own difficult shots. KD may be great in that role of a difficult shot maker still but i'm not sure if he fixes offensive chemistry issues especially in Thibs' offense. The Knicks also have issues with depth and this just makes it worse.

Ok, if there isn't significant draft capital going to Phoenix my proposal doesn’t makes sense.

Fine w/o the picks.

OG and especially Mitchell have injury issues.
KD is 37.5

Cancels out IMO - no picks needed.

Knicks don't have assets in OP and while most responders think the deal can be fixed without the pick, the OP doesn't so locking. OP, if you can fix this to your satisfaction, by all means please re-post. But sounds like its DOA for the OP.
