The Athletic still does some good stuff, but I think the value prop has been getting lost for a couple years now - this kind of cements it.

They do really good work for the people who are there but not having dedicated writers for the Brewers & Badgers really hurts the local aspect for Wisconsin fans

There's probably a market there if Temple wants to do his own reader supported work.

Anyone else heading down for the scrimmage? Probably going to show up late and try to get the kids on the field.

Report. Perfect weather. Got there pretty late. Only caught about 30 minutes of the scrimmage. Nick Clayton had two sacks. The QBs were scrambling a lot. Yac looked good. A couple tunnel screens were good to see. OL needed work.

Best part was getting in the field after and meeting all the players. It’s easy to forget these guys are real young men with parents and girlfriends, etc… All the dudes we approached were incredibly kind and gracious. All happily took pictures with my kids. It was something watching their parents beam with pride with all the love they were getting from the fans.

It’s also easy to forget how huge these dudes are. I’m not a short guy, but Riley Mahlman is like another species. He’s a tower. Mike Garner is a huge edge guy, hopefully he has a great year.

Would recommend next year (if they hold it), if just for the meet and greet.

Was easier to forget when college players weren't getting paid, now that they are it opens them up to more criticism imo.

The last time the Badgers didn't have someone picked in the first 6 rounds was 1990 (Craig Hudson, round 10). It also happened in 1989, but before that you have to go all the way back to 1977.

Wohler should have been picked higher.

Chryst left the team in shambles.

Fick hasn’t picked up the baton and done anything with it, but he was starting at a real low point

Indiana had a magical season and got 2 guys drafted in R4 and R7.

Fickell or whoever can restore some higher end players, but while the new rules have kind of democratized the top 15 teams some years(a little bit. Most of the usual suspects still there), I’ll agree with RS there - teams like Wisconsin won’t have that talent consistently.

The draft picks for Wisconsin have been in a free fall since 2021. The most obvious correlation ever with the new rules of college sports setting in right around then, neutering their developmental strategy from the past 30 years.

ESPN not a fan of the Badgers offseason

Knocking them for not bringing in a transfer RB seems odd though

I also didn't realize Bryson Green got $264,000 guarenteed to him as a UDFA by the Cardinals. Thats 5th round pick guarenteed money.

If you're going back to a run heavy system but relying on a bunch of backups from last year I think it invites criticism.

Maybe? I get not wanting to recruit over Dupree & Jones though, reportedly both look awesome and recruiting over them might have caused them to transfer
