Shooting 10% over your career %, over a 30 game stretch, doesn't seem sustainable.

I was not in favour of the Ingram trade for many reasons, lack of financial flexibility going forward was one of them. I was also not in favour of paying IQ what he got on his extension, I thought it was a significant overpay and I think it's clear now that we could have filled the PG position cheaper with a better defender in Mitchell, even if we had just been able to get IQ on a bit of a discount we might have been able to keep Davion instead of giving him away to Miami.
You acquire cap flexibility so that you can MAKE a trade like Ingram.
We got an allstar level player for olynuk, brown and davion (plus a late pick).
It wasn't long ago that there were 1000s of posts making fun of those that pointed out brown's contract could be used in a big trade.
If you never turn flexibility into anything ...then it IS as useless as so many ppl were claiming.
It wasn't useless. We got Ingram for next to nothing.
Using that flexibility to get a player who hasn't been able to stay healthy and hasn't been an All-Star for 5 seasons but is now being paid like one is a massive risk. There's a reason we got him for the low price we did, there was no market and no team offered more than we did. The fit isn't great either as our starting 1, 2, and 3 aren't known for their defence, keeping Mitchell would have addressed that at least a little bit.

Probably has something to do with playing with other players who can actually floor space instead of our team where we frequently play 2-3 players who can't shoot at the same time. I bet it helps when teams are really worried about Herro and Duncan Robinson at the 3 point line, there's only so many players they can cover.

Over the years, many bums have gone on unsustainable 3-point shooting stretches in the playoffs for the Heat (Robinson, Strus, Vincent, Martin, etc.). Then some team overpays for them in the off-season and they regress to being bums again.

Mitchell won't get overpaid because there are almost no teams with cap space and he's RFA. Miami probably keeps him on a cheap contract, a lot of free agents are going to be taking less this offseason.

I think you're getting it kind of wrong. New Orleans needed cap flexibility more than they needed players. If someone had offered them a comparable star player or some package (like RJ and IQ for OG)....they would've said no. They specifically needed cap flexibility. And not many teams have it.

Every year he playoffs reminds me that there’s no more valuable skill set than live-dribble creation. Every team just gets to a point that they have to give the ball to someone who can just get to a bucket. Having multiple of those would be incredible.

Agreed. The whole ball movement thing mostly works during the regular season because everyone is giving 50 to 75% of their max effort.
As soon as guys start digging in on defense and climbing over/under screens instead of switching...it eventually comes down to iso stuff.
I rememebe the philly series during our chip run being a good example of this. If ppl recall....there was a debate that season that our offense actually looked better without kawhi during the regular season. He played we ran iso. When he didn't play we moved the ball.
That philly series showed that you can move the ball as much as you want. Without kawhi....we basically couldnt score. It's not going to matter how much ballmovement you have if a team dedicates itself to man on man defense with no switching.

Yup. Look at last years playoffs. Luka/Kyrie was the best on ball pairing in the league and they ended up losing to a team that had 4 guys who could create on ball (Jrue/White/Tatum/Brown). Thats really what it comes down to at the end. When everyone is playing at max intensity and whistles are tighter, how many guys do you have that can actually make plays in those situations?
Thats also why i see Boston winning again

Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

I still like Davion
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars
Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid
There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

I think a lot of us saw that he could be a very good piece. Heck, I wanted him to start. They traded him because of the tax implications, but he was also a huge part of that 7 game winning streak after IQ went down. That’s when this team really started playing defense and he was a huge catalyst for that along with Barnes. He also had a big impact with Shead.
I really wish we could have kept him - he’s exactly the type of player who screams championship culture Raptors.

What a fleecing by Masai. Traded nothing for Mitchell then got a 2nd rounder for him.
Mitchell’s play is unsustainable but I think he’s shown enough to be a serviceable rotation player in the NBA.
Team is looking to develop its younger players. Davion at 27 who is fighting to stay in the league just wasn’t a priority. Masai did a great job there. He came in the McDaniels trade. Gave up nothing and then flipped him for something.
I want this team to prioritize its younger players and focus on development. So I’m very happy that Shead took his minutes. Davion wasn’t winning us games, so going with youth was the right call.

That’s what happens when you sacrifice all your financial flexibility by trading for Ingram. Keeping Mitchell would have meant being a tax team for certain.

Actually, it’s aged incredibly well. Who did we miss out on aside from Edey who is a situational big averaging 9/8?
I was not a fan of the Poeltl deal but we can’t deny that it’s turned out way better than we initially thought given the complete lack of talent at our draft slot last year.

They also moved him to open up more minutes for Shead.

Sorry but I just don’t see prime Shaq in anything Edey does. Maybe the coaches aren’t utilizing him properly? Or are they saving him for the playoffs?

You need to be able to do both. Can't run efficient offense just going ISO for a whole game much less an entire series but you better be able to go ISO to get buckets down the stretch in games when you need it.

Opportunity cost. 5 years of a cheap contract, higher chance at wemby...etc
Im not trying to debate it again tho, lol. It was just a drive by "coulda had edey". Deciding to buy in a lost season and dealing out a lightly protected pick for a role player was never gonna age well.
