Trade them to Pheonix for Durant. To match the salary, you have to add more.

Jeremy Fears sounds like a solid pick.

I don't think Fears is still available there. I think Lamelo Ball should be the first option with KD being a close secondn

The draft prospects available are faulted beyond the top few. I think many team may trade the pick.

Let's be honest. Are any playmaking guards available performing better than Max? If not, just add strength and more consistent jumpers from Max. I think there're quite some PJ, Maxi or Gafford type of players available at 12, though.

Let's be real. Jason Kidd is not handing over a starting spot to a 19 year old guard. Any rookie the Mavs draft here will still come off the bench. Unless by some sort of miracle they draft Cooper Flagg. Otherwise it's still off the bench.

A playmaking big guard can be had in the summer via trade. And as much as I hate D Angelo Russell, he fits that mold because the Mavs are desperate. He's 6'4 so he's bigger than Kyrie. Can play 2 guard. Very poor defense and not really a great shooter. Has a relationship with AD but that's pretty much it. Nothing impressive so far.

Hell, I'm beginning to think we should just take Maluach.
He will be immediately useful and would allow us to move Gafford for a veteran guard or playmaker. We'd still have a solid center rotation with both on rookie contracts.

I like Jakucionis in the Mavs range, wish he was there + a CP3 signing or a Martin/Gafford (3 team) trade for Smart?

I think I lane towards finding replacement for PJ instead of Gafford. The Mavs need someone who can bang and make game changing plays. PJ, meanwhile, has injured a lot last season. At 6-7, PJ lacks the ideal size to be a stopper. PJ falls rather convincingly against Morant. I'd explore trade for KD or Isaac.

Of course, if Gafford expects higher offer, I think the Mavs has to move on.

If the Mavs move up in the draft, it's Adam Silver compensating for the trade. 100% rigged IMO.

If it was rigged, Silver would need to send compensation to pacify a fanbase that felt cheated. If he gives Dallas a top 10 pick, he just might save Nico's life.

It would take PJ/Gafford/Klay to get Durant and I'd be out on that. Problem is I have a feeling Nico will make a similar deal.

Unless we're getting the #1 pick and Cooper it's a lousy effort of consolation

Agreed. But hey, it's the Mavs. So keep the expectations low.

They'd trade him for two 2nds.

The deal has been made even before he wears the cap on stage.

Draft Jakucionis and trade for Colin Sexton. Sexton would be easier to acquire.

That’s the package I think they do offer to the Suns. Gafford’s contract is coming up and he deserves to get paid. I’d prefer it be with the Mavs but I think they offer him to the Suns.

Although I wouldn’t be surprised if they traded Gafford to the Lakers (for Reeves?) I know Luka would love to have Gafford to throw lobs to and the Mavs need a PG.

If the they do move Gafford they are going to need to find another defensive big. They found Gafford so hopefully they can find another big on someone’s roster.

Nico won't make another deal with Lakers, it would be laughable to give someone for a player he could have gotten in Luka's trade for free. Secondly, D wins championship, not exactly AR's forte. Thirdly, AR is white.

I'm very sceptical about KD wanting to come in Mavs' mess.

You’re probably right. I just know that Luka wants a legit lob threat and he’s very fond of Gafford.

As for KD, he’s friends with several people in the Mavs organization (team and front office). Of course that doesn’t mean he’ll want to play in this mess, it just makes some level of sense that he would. Of course that also doesn’t mean that the Mavs would have the best offer.

KD is well aware that next year is lost because of Kyrie's injury. Kyrie might come back in 2026 but he will be normal Kyrie only in 26/27 season.

Mavs should be tanking next season for the last good pick for a long time.
