Aaron Ramsey Named Cardiff City Interim Manager After Omer Riza Firing

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Apr 20, 2025 6:43 pm

Cardiff City have appointed Aaron Ramsey as interim first-team manager for the remainder of the season following the dismissal of Omer Riza, the club announced Saturday.

Riza was sacked after Friday\'s 2-0 defeat at Sheffield United, which left Cardiff second-from-bottom in the Championship, one point from safety with three league games to play.

Ramsey, 34, a central midfielder who rejoined his boyhood club in 2023 after stints with Arsenal and Juventus, will be tasked with steering the Welsh side away from relegation to League One. He has been limited to just ten appearances this season due to injuries.

\"Aaron Ramsey will lead the club for the remaining three games of the Championship season, beginning with Monday\'s match at home to Oxford United,\" Cardiff said in a statement.

Riza had been appointed permanent manager in December 2024 after initially replacing Erol Bulut in September. His departure comes shortly after he apologized to supporters for labeling some fans \"clueless,\" comments the Cardiff City Supporters Trust called \"disrespectful.\"

\"We\'d like to thank Omer for his passion and effort during his time as Cardiff City manager and wish him the very best for his next steps in the game,\" the club statement added.

Ramsey will be joined in the technical area by Chris Gunter, Joe Ralls, Tom Hutton, Matthew Bloxham, and Gavin Ward for the critical final three matches.
