Thompson needs to realize, even if he slows down and process his train of thoughts, he’s still a step quicker than everyone. Playing recklessly will be detrimental to his career if he keeps playing like that.

Canadafan wrote::lol: its just one game kids. Lets just take a deep breath. Too much overconfidence after one game. Be humble. We're young and getting our first taste of the playoffs.
Put up a good fight without our top guy playing well(OG clamping him basically) and then we had an epic collapse in the 4th with CamPayne lighting it up.
Just one game. Onto the next. And if we don't win gm2, it's onto the next. Just means Knicks did what they were supposed to do.
Lots of pressure I'd say on them Knickerbockers for game 2![]()
If Stewart is hobbling again though we in deep trouble. The whole game will look like the 4th quarter. Non piston fans don't understand how important that guy is to us. They'll just look at the box score and think he doesn't do much.
And we were the better team through 3 quarters, but we went back to being the 28 losing streak team in the 4th quarter.

They should sell high and him and go after another stretch big who can rebound better. Sabonis would be nasty on that team. Detroit would benefit from adding more size. Kinda of a small team.
Games like these is when they miss Ivey. Sure the nerves got to them during crunchtime as expected for young team but need someone else when Cade or vets arent hitting shots.
Size and rebounding are not the issue. Duren's issue is mental. He have too many lapses and he sucks on defense. We need a better defender, we have one in Stew, but he is really bad on offense. We need someone like Lively for example, someone who can defend relativelly well and have good hands to catch lobs from Cade.
Sabonis is a terrible rim protector and he is not what this team needs on offense, we need a different player (and a cheaper one) and we need the young players to not be scared (Cade and Ausar, Duren is hopeless imo)

The Pistons would benefit more from a Mitchell Robinson type than Sabonis. Ideally a player with a little more offensive versatility than Mitch but they need to double down on their defense.
Knicks were able to attack the post at will down the stretch and that's gonna be an issue all series for the Pistons. If the Pistons are able to apply the pressure they apply and then have somebody waiting down low they're gonna be awful hard to score on.
Skillwise yes, Mitchell would be awesome, but he is too injury prone and he is dumb, he is always in foul trouble. But everything else you said is correct, we need defense and someone with good hands and size (unlike Stewart)

He's not dumb and always in foul trouble anymore. Check his per 36 fouls. He's quite injury prone though.
I don't think Mitch specifically but somebody like him.

3.2 still too much, especially because he played such a limited sample size and limited minutes. He's still the same guy just playing less minutes. He is not a starter, I love him tho and wanted Detroit to sign him when he was a FA, he is a monster on defense.

Experience matters. I wasn’t remotely surprised DET was in control for 3 quarters. I wasn’t remotely surprised DET let that big run happened. Growing pains happens to every team

That would be us missing our #1defender and rebounder Mr Beef Stew. You guys only caught a glimpse of what he's capable of. He's hobbled and likely won't play next game because of that
The guy stinks....
Casual take. Stewart had the best interior defensive FG% this season behind Wemby. If he's not available for the rest of the series it's a huge loss for the Pistons.

Per 36 normalizes for minutes and 3.2 fouls per 36 is a fairly low rate. Almost half of what it once was for him and lower than either Stewart or Duren, for example and theirs aren't crazy high. The small sample this season likely worsens the blow since he was overcompensating when he first returned. Recent years are even lower.
He doesn't foul much anymore.

Duren is clueless and a joke (is he the first player ever to be called for 3 3s in a playoffs game?), and Stew's role is to be super aggressive and not worry about fouls, we have Duren playing big minutes and we have BB Paul who's a great defender if needed, and should play over the terrible Duren imo.
Compare with other starters and 3.2 is high. But like I said I like him, but he fouls too much and availability is very important and that's his main issue.

That's also Mitch's role this year except he's better at the not committing fouls part

This is getting ridiculous. You came in with the argument that Mitch is dumb and always in foul trouble which is demonstrably false. He's had 4 fouls exactly 4 times in the last two seasons. This revised position that he is above average among starters (he's not a starter) is a wild goalpost move. A cursory look at the data suggests he might fall slightly in the top half of normal distribution. That's hardly an out of control problem.
Why not just accept that you were wrong and move on?

In RECENT games, he had 4 fouls in 15 minutes, 3 fouls in 15 minutes and 3 fouls in 12 minutes. Foul is still an issue for him.
Duren and Stewart having foul trouble doesn't make Mitchell Robinson any better in that department. Your argument was ridiculous and you want to make it sould like I am being ridiculous here.
Robinson BBIQ is an issue. His availability is another one. Period. His phisical tools and skillset are undeniable and I like him quite a lot as a player (if you search you will find me posting several times that we - Detroit - should go after him last time he was a free agent).
For me this discussion is over.

Took a bit, but I’m glad you could admit that Mitch hasn’t had foul trouble in years.

Re: 2025 NBA PLAYOFFS East First Round: #3 New York Knicks vs #6 Detroit Pistons
Pistons loss when they let us go on a 21-0 run without a timeout. I don't what JB was thinking there. I love that Thibs actually rode the hot hand and let Cam cook. Was also happy to see OG as the primary defender on Cade. If we can win this coaching battle, it should be a gentlemen's sweep at worse. We already out talent them by a ton.
Pistons are gonna have a short series if Stewart isn't healthy because they lights are too bright for Duren.

This is why I was never (still aren't) a fan of the KAT trade. Julius playmaking and bully ball means other guys including Jalen can get open shots and put teams in the blender. I'm afraid Tatum or Holiday is gonna guard KAT next round and grind our offense to a halt.Capn'O wrote:cgf wrote:Tracymcgoaty wrote:Seriously how the **** are you thibs and you dont utilize Towns as much as you can on offense? It's clear he's the teams best most complete offensive player.
He's one of the most complete offensive bigs in the game.
Towns may be our most versatile offensive weapon, even when Brunson is healthy. But despite his impressive passing he doesn’t know how to control an offense the way Jalen can, which is why this team needs Brunson to take over in crunch time.
Also, unfortunately Brunson's passing skillset isn't ideal for feeding the KAT. Hart and Payne are instrumental in more plays that maximize what KAT can do than Jalen.
It was one of my concerns about moving Randle. Towns is a better overall offensive player but you can't just dump him the ball on the wing and have him act as a secondary hub the way you can with Randle. You've got to set him up in his spots where he can shoot, post, or straight line drive. From those positions, he can act as a stationary passing hub as well. Granted, he has a lot of spots.

Look, I get it, we sucked, we collapsed, but why do people keep making up crap? Did you not watch the game and yet feel qualified to comment?
The Pistons took TWO timeouts during the 21-0 run. Even if you didn’t watch, it’s right there in the game log. I just double-checked.

Re: 2025 NBA PLAYOFFS East First Round: #3 New York Knicks vs #6 Detroit Pistons (NYK leads 1-0)
The only reason this game was even close was Pistons hitting 55% from 3 through 3 quarters and it was still a single digit game. If you want to believe that they are capable of doing that every game then sure its going to be a long season. I cant see them being that consistent from behind the arc unless Beasley is shooting every one of them.
This was the game I feared the Pistons could have and give the Knicks a loss. High 3 pt percentage, 11 off. rebounds leading to 21 points and winning the free throw battle. Knicks still won by double digits.
Pistons have a great future and some nice foundational pieces, looking forward to them being competitive in the next few years
