Re: Luka AD trade thread Part II
I really hope Dirk steps down as „advisor“ since Nico obviously don’t want or think he needs advise. Also the answer about the medical stuff is just a lie.
And from the business dimension I really hope Adelson realizes the crap that Dumont/Nico did. But I also read that Dumont has no idea how to run the casinos either

Tim MacMahon is the 1st journalist with reach that said the quiet part out loud after 2.5 months, he grilled Nico and it reached uncomfortable levels, I suggest listening to this episode of the Hoop Collective.

Long story short, Nico traded Luka bcs he wanted to be a big boss.
**** usless **** will get fired in couple of months and never see an interview for NBA job in his life. How could he not see that?
I still bet he got that bribe stashed in some Swiss account or a fat Bitcoin wallet.

The tension between the sides soared after Doncic sustained another left calf strain -- his fourth in a 28-month span -- on Christmas Day. Doncic's camp believed he had returned too quickly from a left heel bruise he had sustained during his 45-point triple-double in a Dec. 15 win over the Golden State Warriors and had been playing on his toes to avoid discomfort in his heel. Harrison blamed poor conditioning.
The sides also drastically disagreed on the timetable for Doncic's return after receiving the MRI results. Bilsborough believed Doncic could be back in two or three weeks, sources said, while Doncic's team adamantly stated that he needed to sit out six weeks. They got their way, and a target return date was set for the Feb. 8 home game against the Houston Rockets.
"That deepened the divide," a source said.
Doncic didn't put any weight on his left leg for two weeks, using crutches and a scooter to get around. The MRI results four weeks later were encouraging but the plan remained in place.
Another major disagreement emerged between the sides when Doncic refused Harrison's request to join the team on a five-game trip leading up to his target return date.
Harrison griped that Doncic was holding the team hostage, sources said.
Doncic's camp argued that he was better off having around-the-clock access to the Mavs' practice facility than traveling with the team. It pointed out that Doncic was doing two-a-day, multihour basketball workouts, which wouldn't be possible with court time difficult to book on the road. He also could utilize the weight room and the high-tech medical equipment at his convenience, which isn't the case in other team's arenas and hotels.
Harrison countered, insisting that Doncic needed to scrimmage. Doncic's camp, in response, said he'd be happy to practice with the G League Texas Legends in Frisco, a Dallas suburb.
The next time Doncic's camp heard from Harrison, it was to share the news that the trade he'd been secretly negotiating for weeks with the Lakers was finalized.

In case people don't read the article:
Nico Harrison fired Casey Smith, one of the most respected sport medicine expert in the league, who was the USMNT athletic trainer during 2 olympics, and 20 years of employment with the team, over a zoom call, while he's caring and next to his gravely ill mother.
The 2 clowns he hired instead, one approved Lively to come back to play, the other sent him for imaging, and found a stress facture, so the 2 had a fight in the weight room.
Luka wasn't proffisional though!

Sounds like he was just a massive control freak about every part of the team. Traded a superstar for having differing opinion on conditioning and not having it his way. Basically he came in and removed every aspect of the team on the inside the functioned like a real team to consolidate power. Some real loser behavior.

Honest Question: Who is more responsible for huge team decisions, the GM or the owner?

That depends on the team and how involved the owner is. Every owner has the power to overrule their GM/POBO. Some just choose to let them cook, while others meddle.

Good answer. I think only a really bad owner would let a GM trade the face of your franchise.

You're a Mavs fan. Is McMahon respected by Mavs fans or seen as a troll?

Most Mavs fans hate him, I like him a lot in most contexts.
He is not a troll, he is disliked because he spoke things Mavs fans didn't like.

Problem occurs when the owner has little to no clue about NBA and the GM is a massive arrogant controlling prick. Put these two together in a room and you get a clown show.

Re: Luka AD trade thread Part II
I’m still not buying that this was only Nico.
I don’t care how crappy of an owner you are, or how clueless about basketball you are, if a GM says he’s trading one of the best players in the world, you at least ask how many teams he’s spoken to and what due diligence he’s done to be certain he’s getting maximum value for your asset.
There’s much, much more to this.

You are right. It wasn't mentioned in the article that Dumont did not want to pay supermax to Luka because Nico convinced him that his body won't hold up. Dumont was/is clueless but Nico did most of the damage himself.
Obviously we now know the terrible behind the scene games that were played out in the past 2 years, scenes that even pushed the legendary Dirk away from the franchise. What Nico has done in the past 2 years was a freaking terrorism on this franchise.

So why is Harrison getting 98% of the blame?
Me thinks it's because Nico has a "cool" name.

Nico somehow managed to dissuade him from asking for a second opinion by using the excuse that it would get leaked.
If any other person heard about this, trade wouldnt happen. When they heard it it was already too late.
A lot of owners are not experts in basketball, and they trust their GM's, however on decisions like that you always ask for 2nd opinion if you are not sure. What Nico did here, just tells us that Dumont didnt get to be owner because he is smart like most of NBA owners, but because he got lucky. Dumbass.
I would put 90% on Nico and rest on the owner. He has final word, but he got tricked here.
All that is under assumption that everything here was legal. I still think that someone got a lot of money out of this, and we all know who that someone is.

If you're an owner who's capable of being tricked by your underling, you're a horrible owner and leader.
The owner isn't a victim. Victims don't have choices.
Leaders are always most responsible.
