happy for the Celtics to go for titles instead, but feels like OKC might feel slighted WRT COY and DPOY this season
I guess Shai MVP is meant to be reward 'enough' for 68 wins and one of the better defensive ratings ever <--Constable, is that second part true?

If we're talking about defensive rating relative to league average for the season, then yes, they're right up there with the 2004 Pistons and some of the Spurs teams.

They have the best net rating in NBA history IINM.

How the heck is Joe not a finalist for coach of the year?

because that award has almost always been "which team SURPRISED us the most??" as if the only reason a team might surprise pundits is if the coach was particularly awesome.

Which has led to an embarrassing number of COY award winners who get canned the next season or two.

Why not just give it to the BEST coach -- not the most 'surprising' to the Kendrick Perkins' of the media hellscape?

I mean, look at this:
Popovich has won it three times.
Budenholzer, Mike Brown, and Thibadeau have each won it twice.
Like: what the actual ****?

And Daginault won it for leading OKC to the #1 seed out West last year, but this year he wins 68 games (top 10 result in NBA history?) with the best net rating in NBA history, and it's crickets because WOW those Pistons, Rockets, and I guess Cavs were kind of SURPRISING, right?

Sorry to rant. I've hated the way this award is discussed and voted on for years. But this -- THIS POST -- is finally going to change it

Agreed

Safe to say he has the most wins over the last 3 seasons plus one of those trophy things that every team tries to win each year.

Sixers Adam reports Elton Brand is a strong candidate to take over Atlanta Hawks front office.
Read on Twitter

Elton famously signed Al Horford away in the summer of 2019. Obviously, that didn't work out. Morey came in and traded Horf + draft picks for Danny Green. If Brand gets the job, I hope he does't aim for a Horford reunion in the ATL

Amazing how Nico Harrison can still hold press conferences instead of being in handcuffs. People have been jailed for less.

The stats nerds might have gone too far with this one. Wut.

Also, no Lebron or MJ or Kareem is hard to believe.

Noise around Giannis possibly leaving the Bucks is getting louder as we get deeper into the postseason. Even louder after the Bucks get swept. My bet is the Lakers to pair with Doncic long-term while Lebron takes the MLE next season. Or the Nets (+ an unnamed star to join him in FA). OKC can give the Bucks the most in terms of future assets. Spurs would be a terrifying thought too.

Brown + multiple firsts, first swaps, I doubt anybody can beat that as the Bucks can then trade Brown for multiple firsts.

On a side not, I know some people may think what I'm about to write is petty, but remember what I told you guys about Smart 2 years ago?? That he would never get the treatment he got here and that he would be held accountable for his dumb plays? Here we are with Smart as a bench player for the Wizards.
Good assessment:

PLO wrote:Tatum played OK - took advantage of a few mismatches - decent on the defensive end. He is what we thought he was going into the season - a technically very proficient player operating close to his career ceiling as a rookie.

Different situations. Wizards are right to bench their vets and play the young guys more. Dunno what happened with the Grizzlies, but he was viewed highly by that org considering they had to give up Tyus Jones plus two firsts for him. It's also possible Stevens traded Smart the right time, just on the brink of his physical decline.

Not sure Stevens will trade Brown ever, unless he himself asks out.

Jay Brown is not going anywhere.

Celts are more balanced with the Jays than with JT and Giannis.

JB's defense is invaluable.

I remember Giannis saying he would never want to play with James Harden because he "wanted to actually touch the ball sometimes". Can't see much difference with Luka. Giannis to Brooklyn or Houston would be my guess.

He's just hard to fit with some of these teams. Best ready-made fit is still Boston 'cos they already have the shooting around him. Tatum isn't also as ball-dominant as Luka or SGA. HOU would be rough without the shooters. Maybe they can flip Jalen Green and FVV for a better backcourt pair.

I've said no to trading JB for KD, Harden, Butler, Beal (lolz), and just about anyone else over the years.
I'd do it in a heartbeat for Giannis. I think JT and Giannis would be amazing together. Though they are both developing into 'run your offense' forwards, and Giannis is 30.3yo, and his FT% (62 this season) makes Jaylen's look amazing. PP/DW/JT/GA/KP (I traded Jrue into cap space :( would be amazing. Opponents would struggle to break 80ppg.
