Re: PG: that sucked
somebody correct me if i'm tripping but the last couple years we won off possessions. we outrebounded the opposition and won the possessions game. that's the thibs way. this year's team, including guys that were here back then, cough the ball up constantly for no god damn reason. even some possessions that we end up keeping, it feels like the ball is in constant danger of being turned over. that's our problem imo

This is the easiest switch in the world yet this "well coached" team continues to f*ck these simple switches up.
Now Brunson is clearly at fault...that 100000% needs to be a switch...but come on...is it because Brunson is playing 44 minutes? That effort and communication is poor. That is inexcusable. And its not just those two guys...it has happened way too much this year...
It was only a matter of time before they hit a big one. Our scheme is so antiquated. Switch everything but also help on the roller. What?

Re: PG: that sucked
just finished. I don't know why we don't just bench Towns if we don't run plays for him or even give him the ball at all.
Mitch or Achiuwa are at least better on defense and they can watch Brunson dribble the ball for 20 seconds on each possession too.
also great to see that we keep feeding OG in his hot offensive stretch.
Thibs is just a chess master.

Why we we the only team that doesn’t set down or staggered screens for someone to pop to the top for an open look? Don’t have the personnel?
Seems like that’s it at least A PLAY.
Mitch and Towns... Towns setting the first scree would open up also a free look for him if he gets wide open after the screen

HEZI wrote:KAT has shrunk in the playoffs throughout his career. It’s not surprising to see him struggle. Even with the Pistons throwing double teams at him you still want to see more assertiveness and aggression from him and he just didn’t bring that. He’s probably more ideal in a 3rd option role and this team doesn’t have that true 2nd option. Not that it’s needed to beat the Pistons though, I think we can and should still win this series but after that we need to seriously evaluate this roster and ask ourselves are they really capable of being better or is this basically the peak of who we are
That would make sense if he didn't lead his team to the WCF last year, going toe to toe and defeating a three time MVP and the best player on the planet and his championship team. It would be true, but not after he had one of his best Knicks games in the first game of his Knicks playoff career, to say he shrunk, if he actually wet the bed...but nothing he did showed that.
How is the second option supposed to play like one if this consistently happens:
Brunson wastes energy bringing the ball up, knowing full well they are going to apply full court pressure, he continues to do it to bait the defender into foul calls. Nobody even bothers to come help him, he insists on bringing it up.
We are now running a Brunson iso with 14 on the shot clock, the action doesn't work, Brunson passes the ball...then RUNS BACK TO GET THE BALL BACK to run it again. This is BY DESIGN. The players are standing around looking for Brunson, because that is what we are running. We can talk about why wasn't Kat more assertive, or why doesn't Mikal take the ball and create once JB is stopped....but it's pointless because they are running thier "set", if they don't comply with what Brunson and the coach wants, they are breaking the play, because the play is for Brunson to hunt for his favorite matchup, use multiple picks and players to get the switch and get to work. That's all Brunson utilized Kat for in the fourth, and Kat knew this is what "the captain" wanted so he didn't run any action after, just let Brunson have his man and go stand somewhere.
I'm sick and tired of Thibs telling us "the game will tell you what to do". This is his go to line to explain his read and react offense. The problem, mother ****, with this logic and play style is opponents aren't stupid, they are going to lure you into doing what they want. Kobe called it accidental basketball. You let the defense decide, dictate, where the ball goes, who the ball goes to, who takes the shot. This is why time and time again the ball ends up in Josh's hands, who has no business running a half court set as a secondary playmaker. This stupid offense works on stupid teams, it's why we are amazing against bottom feeders, but the good ones intentionally give us "what we want", like open shots for Josh all night, it's why we will never get past the Bostons and Clevelands of the league with this coach at the helm and his favorite pet in the starting lineup.
Meanwhile Kat is standing around with a mismatch all night and isn't utilized, because we don't run sets, an offense, to get players open. If your wish is to see players move, run a proper set, and get a nice wide open look just off of player and ball movement, you haven't watched Thibs long enough.
We have a solid team...when guys are hot and doing their reading and reacting, we've seen their potential, but when that bogs, we have a coach shoving square pegs into round holes because he thinks X's and O's are for Tic Tac Toe.

Trust me when I say this. He wouldn’t be on the floor against any other team he would be getting exposed. Knicks will Knick. Tobias Harris playing defense, every shot from Hardaway and Beasley feel like they will go on and feel like big shots. Shroeder game winner unbelievable. My point is only Knicks will make this team look good. If we faced ourselves we will score 150 points.

Usuall lazy confused Josh play. Usually like 2-3 a game for some supposed great defender. Enough Nepotism he’s 6’4 and a lot of the pistons are bigger than him he can’t even match up with Cade. **** I think Beasley taller than him.laughed at his jump passes loose play with the ball he brought it to playoffs.

but also, there's just more to talk about when a team loses. if you did what you were supposed to do, cool. not much to say. god job everyone. but when you lose you have to figure out why. so you discuss it more. you analyze it.
you motherf*ckers are like the opposite of that kobe clip. you beat the wizards by 20 in the regular season and start popping champagne in here like the job is finished

I would love to know what he does besides tell players play hard or you'll sit. When he put Kat at center, the talk was about how we are going to utilize one of the best three point shooters in the league by running a 5 out offense....it was the whole point of him being at center.....instead we are running this read and react, street ball offense which lead to him taking two three pointers tonight.
Thibs is a guy who can maximize athletic, defensive players who need minutes, structure and discipline, let them go out there, run around and do what they do, and lock it up on defense. Give him some talent that play a tick less hard because they have to carry his nonexistent offense, and he's lost, because now the adjustments are to be made on offense, which he's clueless of. It's the whole reason why he runs this nonsense and lets players do whatever they want to do.
He's maxed out, we seriously need someone young with fresh ideas and ways to utilize the talent on this team. No retreads. It's frustrating to watch other teams run modern offenses while we are stuck in the stone age.

Rotation should look like:
C: Robinson (25), Towns (12), Precious (11)
PF: Towns (26), Hart (22)
SF: Anunoby (35), Hart (8), Bridges (5)
SG: Bridges (30), McBride (18)
PG: Brunson (35), Payne (13)
9 man rotation. No starter plays more than 35 minutes on average. McBride gets 18 min off the bench, Hart 30, Payne 13 and Precious 11. Mitch replaces Hart in the starting lineup, the way this team was originally designed.
