Mikal Bridges value/offers
The Knicks got themselves into a bit of a dead end after the Bridges trade, they overspent and now find themselves short on assets, financially strapped, with some obvious holes and clearly a notch (at least) behind the real contenders. Mikal is still a great, very valuable player, but with Hart cheaper, OG more valuable and Mikal expiring next year, he seems like the obvious candidate, if they want to trade something... (and in my opinion they should)... what offer would you make for him...?

The Mavs, what would the trade be like? Christie+Gafford? Gafford+Martin+FRP 25..(lottery pick)..? PJ+Gafford for Bridges + Filler?..

Re: Mikal Bridges value/offers
I think the question should be best offer for either Bridges, Hart or Anunoby. It’s becoming clear that the Knicks should move one of them to balance out the roster, and which one is moved should depend on the packages offered.
Anunoby had the best season of the three and is under team control for 3 more years on a reasonable not great contact
Bridges came into the season the best of the 3, and his lower cap number is easier to work in under cap rules, but he’s entering the final year of his deal.
Hart is more of an elite bench player, but is on a solid long term contract (2 years plus a team option) at a reasonable number.
I’m not sure what the offers are going to be, but the Knicks need a combination of rim protection and secondary shot creation and it would also be nice to replenish some draft capital.
As a Knick fan, if I was given the option of retuning Bridges to Brooklyn in exchange for the 3 outstanding picks and 1 swap we owe, I would do it.

I think the Christie/Gafford/1st rd pick package is something that NY should be interested in. I doubt Dallas gives up their 25 1st here but can see them offering the Lakers 29 1st in this deal.
It’s not a great return for NY as Gafford and Christie are average starters at best, in theory they have the value of the 2, 2025 1’s NY is sending to Brooklyn this year. And the Lakers pick only replaces 1 of the 3 outstanding picks. But it’s appropriate value for Bridges.

He is worth a useful player, filler and a pick. I agree the Gafford, Christie and a future first with protections seems fair. I would not trade Dallas 2025 pick for him.

Re: Mikal Bridges value/offers
I still really like Bridges in Det. Dump some salary after the trade to sit on 10-15 mil in cap and renegotiate him in January..
Dallas definitely should be interested and I think Dallas offers Gafford, Christie, 11th. Think you need a third team to take Powell or so? And probably ask NYK to pay the seconds to do that?
If Gafford agrees to a long term extension (20ish a year) - Dallas should offer Lively here. But I really don’t like trading a lot for Bridges when he might end up the most likely “star” FA next offseason and Dallas will look pretty ”meh” long term..
Rather go for OG and his big contract.

Why were the Knicks so desperate to get him in the first place?

It didn’t make sense at the time other than (a) Dolan loved the press around the Villanova thing and (b) Leon needed his contract extended and won’t be around for the rebuild.
It has the downside of one of the worst trades in NBA history and the upside of being a meh trade. Not the kind of gamble any sane team would make.
Remember - it’s much different if your a contending team with a built out roster and you pay a premium for a role player. Even then, the premium the Knicks paid for Bridges would be considered exorbitant

Considering a scenario where Jazz draft Flagg and go all in to compete next year, I would say they could offer a 1st + expirings.

I would say last offseason, he was the best two-way player/contract available in the market. Remeber, Jazz made a good offer and was supposed to get him, but Knicks decided to overpay. I think it was fair.

I don't want Bridges back, so I semi-sarcastically offer the rim protection you seek in the form of Claxton.

Re: Mikal Bridges value/offers
Some Bulls offers
White/Huerter/12th pick/Port pick
White/Smith/12th pick/Port pick
White/Collins/12th pick/Port pick
Knicks need another shot creator and White can shoot, score, create for himself and others. The other part of the trade is either Huerter/Smith/Collins, all solid players that can help any team depending on what Knicks want. Huerter shooter, solid team defender, Smith stretch 5 who offers some switchability and rim protection, Collins solid dependable center. Plus Knicks would get 2 picks.

OG and Hart do those small non-box score things though that make the difference over the course of a game between winning and losing. Mikal frankly doesn't.
What we really need is KAT/OG/Hart/Brunson + the star those picks should have landed, but since that isn't possible, I trade Mikal this off-season

Does it really matter who you guys trade for if your post-season offense is Brunson-ISO ball?

How is White as a defender? In theory, I like having another explosive scorer in the backcourt with Brunson. But it’s hard enough to have both Brunson and Towns on the court defensively.
But the idea of getting a similar level player with a different fit in White, a late lotto pick, another role player and a fake 1st for Bridges is interesting

Hart might be the kind of guy you should trade a year early before it becomes a year too late. Also, he’s best suited to be a 6th man playing 25-30 MPG doing the little things.
Also - it wouldn’t be possible to have both KAT/OG plus Brunson and another star. But they should have never done the Bridges trade at that price.

If Bridges was available*…
Could Miami get him with JJJ, Jovic, and using the GSW first to dump Rozier?
Or if you put some thought into it.. maybe flip one of Jovic, JJJ, or the GSW first with Rozier to that third team for a useful rotation center (Gafford, Goga, Jalen, Timelord, whoever)

I think this general concept here of Bridges for a useful rotation player, two young players and a solid 1st rd pick is reasonable. And a guy like Gafford is a solid target. Bigger issue here in that Jovic doesn't fit in with Towns and JJJ is redundant with Josh Hart.
I'm intrigued by the idea of looping Toronto into the deal:
Jakob Poeltl and Ochai Agbaji end up in New York with JJJ and Pick #39.
Jovic and the GS 1st ends up in Toronto
Bridges ends up in Miami
NY would then either flip Hart or JJJ for a better roster fit.
It's hard to accept this kind of return for NY with 4 unprotected 1sts (3 picks, 1 swap) for Bridges, but I think it's fair value for him and makes the team better:
Brunson/Agbaji/Anunoby/Towns/Poeltl
Duce/JJJ or Hart/Mitch anchor then bench - with either Hart or JJJ flipped for another guard who can score/create.

Yeah, the prospects aren’t great fits/needs.. but I think the total value is about right? deal just needs to be built up.
Toronto is a good choice with Poeltl, but not sure they’d be too excited about JJJ/Jovic either.
