Lakersnation host Trevor Lane tweeted that he misses Dennis Schroeder 2 nights ago. I felt Gabe would play a major part for this team with his solid defense and clutch shots.
Luka and Reaves are playing a ton of minutes, spending so much energy creating scoring opportunities.
Goodwin and Vando are such liabilities on offense forcing JJ to rely heavily on Gabe and DFS to provide support.

We managed to get one win.
This much struggle at home.

Can we get three more against this malicious intent team? 3 of the 5 games remaining are in Minnesota.

Luka dribbled a bit too much in this game. Same with Reaves. Exhausting for them and also inefficient for the team. Don gave me D Lo flashbacks a few times.

Swing it around, move off the ball. I think we’re the hardest to beat when all three take turns handling, and we play less bouncy-ball.

Hayes needs to try not to foul out. Not having that lob threat shrinks our offense.

We can still win this series 4-1 or 4-2 with some adjustments. I don’t want Bron to have to play 7 games every round before we get to the Cavs or Boston.

The only problem Lakers had in game 2 was 3-points %, normal shooting and game would have been over in Q3. If they want to win game or 2 in Minnesota, they will need to shoot a lot better, especially AR, who's missing wide open shots.

Luka dribbling and targeting Rudy is a game plan, taking the best defensive C in Nba out of the paint is always good, there should be more cutting, when that happens.

What do you think is a reason for Gobert averaging only 6 rebounds?

I completely agree, playing simply 1v1 on Gobert is inefficient because they adjust it through the game(to cut pass lines) and with the fatigue Doncic is not explosive enough to generate enough advantage, we have to alternate attacks and try to generate spaces with P&R Doncic + LeBron/Hachimura and with cuts looking for the back of Randle, Ant or Conley who usually are relax and we can get many easy layups under the hoop.

All I said was he’s doing it too much. It’s at the cost of offensive flow.

And, it’s not good for Luka’s endurance to bounce the ball for 20 seconds. Passes, please. Well aware of their history from last year, our game plan etc.

Plus if you have a lob threat, it’s more effective. Looking at Hayes.

It's essential for Lakers that Gobert is put out of the paint and out of position for rebounding. They won't change attacking him. Saying those generic things, how they should pass more is like listening to Espn reporters. They're doing what they think is the best and what opponents allow them to do.

Hayes is unplayable, because with him you just make Gobert that much more comfortable. He just can't match Gobert.

Generic who? What? Cool story.

I disagree. I’m fairly sure Luka has been told by Redick to hold back on that play by a significant amount in the next game.

Less solo bouncy ball a la D Lo, and we get a win on the road is my prediction for the next game.

Defense!!! We won scoring only 94 in the last game.

EDIT: Hayes is far from unplayable. His two worst games since AD left were his last two. He’ll place Gobert in no man’s land.

I was just kidding.
Have you seen videos of the triangle offense recently? Those plays look so outdated. They look like strategies from the 50s.
I see now why Kobe didnt like it and always wanted to break out of it.

Dude. I happen to disagree with using that strategy when used AS MUCH as in last game. Well aware of the tactic and its mechanics. Why do you ass-ume ignorance and defiance to it? :D

It works sort of. Last game I think on one on one shot attempts facing Gobert we were 5-17 so it wasn’t very effective. Unless you have a lob threat (like Hayes) present to trap Gobert in no man’s land, that’s not a good play to overuse. Ineffective, and very taxing on Luka.

Again, I happen to disagree with using that strategy when used AS MUCH as in last game. I’m not against it. I just want to limit it. No video or explaining it needed, but thank you very much for preaching to the choir. :D

What team is your home team?

And yes, I’m sure JJ was mad at Luka for going to that play too much, too. It was showboating, not wise decision making.

Bringing C on the perimeter is a decision everyone in Nba uses, even if we dismiss that Cs are not the best in guarding perimeter, it's always better to have rim protector and rebounder out of the paint. Basketball is a little more complex than just saying pass the ball and score more.

That's all from me.

Just a few sets, please! Blind pig…. Do it, JJ.

I was just kidding.
Have you seen videos of the triangle offense recently? Those plays look so outdated. They look like strategies from the 50s.
I see now why Kobe didnt like it and always wanted to break out of it.

Gotta admit it’s been a while. :D

But facts remain, three pieces in a triangle shape moving as a unit to create passing lanes has always been how the best offenses in soccer are run. I’d argue the same is true for basketball. PJ has 11 rings.

Adapted to today’s game I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. I’d try it because it’s reactive, thus impossible to guard.

Can anyone answer me this question(s) as I'm not too knowledgeable in bb other than I am a fan of Lakers as entertainment...

but what does it mean that playoffs turns to half court play? Why cant any team at any time in the regular season, just turn to half court play if all that means that "everything slows down in the playoffs and turns to half court" .. isn't that just something you or your team can wish to do, rather than be having no choice to make that decsion whether in playoffs or not?
So if your team has a preference of half court play, they can just stick to that at anytime of the year. Also, if someone gets the ball in transition (off a missed shot or long rebound etc) they are going to run in transition to quickly score anyways, even during the playoffs. So i dont get such labels used during playoffs.

also
this sort of adjustment like Luka switching to gobert as his defender so that he can attack him offensively. .. this sort of adjustment or strategy, why is this only talked about or done during playoffs? Why does this have to even be thought of as an adjustmnet? just do it during the regular season, what is the deal with not doing it then, "because we arent playing them in a series" does nt make any sense to me as an answer.
these and much other questions have always baffled me, and always was an elephant in the room for me
Kobe Bryant forever

I've heard it through the grapevine..NBA gods have already designated Los Angeles LAKERS as NBA Champions in near future. The destiny is real. TRUST ME.

I’m just a fan, too, but I’ll bring my two cents to the table. Btw, I think the ramp up to playoff ball intensity is more gradual this year than it used to be. Intensity of play has been very high for the last month.

The scouting and strategizing for a series is deeper, so the normal flow of your offense will be compromised in game one. Guards get picked up full court, funneled to the sidelines. When both teams in a series know exactly what the opponent wants to do, and both teams are executing a designed game plan to stop each other, that seems to spell more of a half court and slower offense.

Why not scout and scheme as deeply during the season? I think our good record this season was in large due to the coaching staff actually being very good at scouting opponents and adjusting schemes from game to game. It was said our team is good at adjusting to different strategies, too.

And regular season success likely can’t be had for a sustained 82 game stretch if we tried to play each game with playoffs intensity defense. Everyone would be injured and worn out by March.

What you bring up is why I always harp about defense. If you play something similar to post season type defense during the 82 games, and if in doing so you make your younger and quicker opponents play half court offense every possession, you’ll win a lot of games, and by the post-season you already have deeply established healthy defensive team habits.

PJ saw regular season as a long marathon training camp to get the team ready for ‘the real season’.

If we should end up winning this series, the game 4 loss is going to be the most valuable loss of the year. We can still win this series. They did so many things right. Only a few small things wrong.

Our passing and playmaking is incredible when we swing the ball around with pace. Gorgeous basketball with movement off the ball.

As a fan of JJ’s coaching, like always, I actually disagreed with the plan tonight. There were minutes for Vincent and Vando to play in the second half.

Ask any player how many minutes they can play tonight and they’d all say 48. It’s on coach to make sure they’re fresh in the last five. Fail.

Setting the pick at the half court line is an interesting strategy but it’s reactive to coach Finch. Take his move away, don’t bend to it. Although that high pick created some open shots it also caused turnovers. The half court line became the third defender trapping Luka.

Why not pass the ball in the back court instead when initiating and they won’t be able to direct their blitz, will have to sit back a bit. It’ll give us room to set up the half court better.

If we beat them big in the next game, this series is still ours. If we dig this one out, watch out. Minny is a good test.
