Embiid is just about done. He's like Lonzo, only with 100lb more and 5 years older, plus a contract that runs 4x as long and is owed 15x the money. No team in its right mind should touch that contract with a 10 light year pole.

If he had a Zion like contract, maybe you could convince someone to bet on one healthy post season (which he hasn't had so far, so it's kind of crazy to hope for in the future given how much his health has worsened), but this is asking for a team to willingly jail themselves for half a decade, in an environment where the cap burden has become harder than ever to bare. Only a GM with a death wish could try this.

I don’t think the Sixers are really ready to trade him yet, but if Dallas offered those players, I would take it; even without the picks. Is there easier way for Dallas to match money here? I would think it would be a lot to ask for them to build out the roster at that point, if it was 6 for 1.

Klay, Gafford, Caleb, and PJ match money. That seems a workable base. Will revisit this after the lottery.

Pretty much this. I go back and forth on whether it's time to trade Embiid, but I agree that the lottery will play a key role in that decision.

I would take the four players you mentioned + picks and go from there. Figure out what to do with George later.

Maxey/McCain/Butler
Grimes/Klay/Edwards
George/Martin/Oubre
(Lotto)/PJ/Council
Gafford/Bona/Drummond
2025-2026 Philadelphia 76ers:

Maxey/McCain/Lowry
Grimes/Edgecombe/Gordon
Oubre/Edwards
George/Watford/Walker
Embiid/Bona/Drummond/Broome

You'd be hard pressed for us to offer a used stick of bubble gum to take on the risk of his monstrous contract

The logic here is pretty simple - there is no way Embiid will have 4 reasonably healthy seasons over the next 4 years of his massive contract and Philadelphia has really put themselves in a financial bind with he and George on the roster. George has no value, but Embiid still might. Here, they get a lottery pick, a really nice young center, some decent rotation players, and a future first to start reshaping the roster around Maxey and whoever they draft.

For Dallas, they just nuked their future by trading Luka and fans are (understandably) livid. They spin the fruits of their failure this season into a player who - if they can get one healthy run with AD and Kyrie - gives them a real chance at a championship. I don't think there would be a better trio than a healthy Kyrie, AD, and Embiid. There is obviously huge downside here: Embiid might have suffered career ending injuries, Kyrie is often hurt, AD is often hurt, you may never see them field a full team, they wouldn't have much depth, etc. But given what we've seen out of Harrison ... this seems like something he would strongly consider. If it fails, you flip AD and Kyrie for value and rebuild while waiting for Embiid to expire.

Embiid/Gafford
AD
Marshall
Christie
Kyrie/Williams

Are the Mav's really that dumb? What are they trying to make the most fragile team ever constructed?

No. You want to make that argument on PG, have at it. Not Embiid.

Embiid has massive upside if magically healthy. That itself has value even if he's never healthy. Just like Zion. And, to reiterate from above, the Sixers think they're going to win next year so they're not even ready to trade him yet.

If the Sixers think they are remotely a contender, then there is no helping them if they are that delusional. No matter what the media says, the Sixers have never been contenders, just pretenders. And now their "process" leader is damaged goods. They also have a PG problem. But sure, next season is the season of the Sixers, 74 magical wins and 16 more for the ring, easy work.

Morey being wrong doesn’t change what he’s going to do.

And I would be a millionaire if magically I had a lot of money.

Well... technically there's a small chance of you running into a brick wall and passing through unharmed. I wouldn't bet on it, but if someone else wants to, be my guest. I'll just grab some popcorn and watch the show.

Sadly we entered the needlessly reductive portion of the thread. Just locking it to prevent more of the same. Anyone who has more to contribute PM me and I'm happy to open it back up for actual discussion.
