Horst is a good GM. Don’t be too sure that we wouldn’t mess up his replacement like we messed up the head coach hire. I’m happy he got his extension.

Horst is 1/3 for good coaches. And he's like 3/25 on sensible player additions through drafts and FA and trades.

Wow. What a disastrous organization it’s hard to do worse as a team with a perennial MVP candidate on the roster.

To me this indicates Horst is willing to be a good boy to provide cover for Doc's/the owner's continued mistakes, like the Midd/AJJ for Kuz trade. Because if Horst did that independently, he wouldn't be extended. And if he dissented, he wouldn't extend. This is a bad omen.

If he fires Doc I'm good with it.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Yeah unless the Bucks turn it fully around and go on a deep playoff run I’ve got a hard time seeing both coming back.

Or at least Doc getting the POBO promotion with real power.

My cope is that he never wanted to hire Griff or Doc, and maybe the ownership group realizes where they went wrong and are willing to let him get his guy.

My issue is that good GMs are able to win those battles with ownership. Disagreements obviously happen all the time behind closed doors, and yet, the best GMs don’t have these blemishes.

I'm willing to buy into the silver lining here that this is an outright admission by ownership that they **** up in not letting Horst hire Atkinson and that Kuzma was purely a Doc move. But man, this organization looks so **** amateur right now...

Ownership will always win a "battle" with a GM. Every team in every sport.

ETA, a good dynamic is the owners hiring a GM and/or POBO and letting him do his thing with little meddling (all owners meddle to a degree, no huge contracts are given out or huge trades done without ownership approval. But when push comes to shove, it's the owners 100% of the time. Again, all teams, all sports).

Horst is a moron, and I don't ever want to hear "trade Giannis" again, because this clown would botch that so unbelievably badly.

I doubt ownership has any idea that the Kuzma deal was bad, much less how truly tragic is was.

Don't make it a battle. Make it a sale.

I really don't think he's been good. We have already covered his draft picks. We have acquired the following players in the draft under Horst:

DJ Wilson
DDV
Nwora
Beauchamp
Livingston
Johnson
Smith

Wilson and Beauchamp were two of the worst picks in their respective drafts. DDV was a great pick for who was traded for 78 year-old Serge Ibaka. I liked Johnson, but again, he was included in an awful trade.

He did make three trades to upgrade our PG's, which worked out to various degrees. However, we did empty our draft chest to do this.

Hiring Grief and Doc were both terrible moves. Landing Kuzma was a terrible move.

Horst walked into this prime GA and prime Middleton. Since 2017, he added zero long-term pieces via the draft. His major player acquisitions were made by trading multiple first round picks.

I just don't see it. We need a great talent evaluator here.

Horst has delivered a lot of what Giannis wanted.

Dame especially.

Idk if we could get a GM more likely to keep Giannis comfortable staying.

That’s especially if there will be major moves with Doc and/or Dame after Khris got got already.

Either way if Giannis fears a new power center would pull a (less insane) Luka trade he’d be much more likely to strike first.

If we push past the coaching stuff, his trade record, ability to consistently identify talent on the margins, and overall cohesive vision for a team that works on the court is very much lacking.

What are we doing here?

Our biggest hope this offseason was getting the GM hire right.
