All these FOs and coaches getting ****, we're over here with a top 2 player in the league and the 5 seed in the East, down 0-2 in the first round and EXTENDING leadership?

My issue is that good GMs are able to win those battles with ownership. Disagreements obviously happen all the time behind closed doors, and yet, the best GMs don’t have these blemishes.

Ownership will always win a "battle" with a GM. Every team in every sport.

Don't make it a battle. Make it a sale.

Agreed, often you have to talk owners into making the moves you want. But at the end of the day we don't really know the dynamics in play. We've made a ton of big moves the past few years. How many were 100% Horst and how many had owners meddling involved we can only speculate.

Well I'm now resigned to the fact we'll continue to have a below average front office. Don't continue to saddle us with a league worst coaching staff as well. Fire Doc and his 93 assistants

What did Horst do to earn this extension?

If Horst'/owners keep Doc I'll be livid. A competent coach (and staff) could and should get a lot more out of this team.

Hard to evaluate Horst because I’m not sure how many of his decisions have been truly his. The Lasry-Hamady group had strong ownership input, so unless there’s been a shift in that dynamic, it’s tough to know what this extension actually signifies. If this means Horst gets to operate with real autonomy, then I’m interested to see what his unfiltered vision looks like. But until there’s top-down philosophical change, it's all just deck chairs on the Titanic.

Yeah.....no. We can debate how good certain GM's are at identifying talent, but the billionaires writing the checks for this stuff are always gonna have final say. That's just the reality of taking the job.

Horst apparently was an option in Phoenix like he was last year with Detroit.

It’s interesting he’s choosing to come back after what sure seems like a few years of Doc having disproportionate influence amidst reports Horst was overruled on the coaching hire multiple times.

At least that’s the hope. Kuzma smells like more of a Doc target to me fwiw.

My point is more what Emunney said, and that’s a better choice of words - sale.

The best GMs don’t get into a full stand-off with owners, because they sell their idea well enough to never get that far, and/or the results are clear enough that they establish better credibility.

I had a lot of faith in the FO until the Middleton trade, which was so bad it threw every other decision into question. Did he pitch some 8 dimensional offseason plan that required getting under the 2nd apron, or does ownership just appreciate that he's willing to ride in the trunk?

Initial thought was yuck.

But after thinking about it some more, I'm hoping the owners have come to their senses and gave Horst full control this time. They agreed he could find a new coach this offseason and they can let him handle the coaching search without butting in. He seems to have a good working relationship with Giannis which is the most important aspect if they want to re-tool around him this offseason. They need a good coach to go with him though to help guide him on players to draft/develop. When Bud was here, he had lots of input to help Horst mold a team to his liking. Maybe that coach is Taylor Jenkins or someone similar that when paired with Horst make a good duo.

Let this be the end of Doc as coach and/or possible POBO. I think some of these later moves like Kuzma have his name all over it.

Fairly surprised by this, like most here I assumed both would be fired after they lose this playoffs. Or maybe Doc transitioned to some kind of front office role since they're paying him anyway.

So like others said, this seems to me to be an admission or gives us info that many of the moves lately have been orchestrated by the owners and he's just been doing their bidding. If it was all him it would clearly be grounds for firing, so they must be not putting the blame on him and he's likely been able to give them a few "I told ya so"s over the last few years. I've pretty much accepted they won't be able to build another real contender so I won't get too worked up about it, but I don't have much confidence in the moves this summer to actually work if we're essentially letting the same group of people decide on the moves. Was hoping for fresh eyes/brains on the problem
