As PP recently said, Horst was able to get Giannis to sign 2 big extensions. Both times there was a lot of talk, here and in the media, that he would bolt.

That can't be overlooked

Heard the news from a random bucks YouTuber. "Bucks fans are fired up for this big announcement!" with Horsts' picture in the thumbnail.

I thought for sure it was a pun on him getting fired

I thought the owner would wait to see what happens the playoffs, but I quess that won't matter.. Makes me nervous cause I don't think Doc is going anywhere.

First: I do not think that Jon Horst deserves this extension for any recent actions. Nothing further there.

Secondly: I'm not sure that, like coaches, there are many GMs that truly make a big difference in the positive direction. Yes, you've got a select few guys like Presti, but for the most part I think GMs make more bad moves than good, and that's mostly because it's really hard to win a championship, which most GMs wind up being graded on the curve for. I don't think Horst is it, but I'm also not sure who would be able to fix this mess. I don't think Horst is great, but he could certainly be worse (although I'm sure many of you think that might not be possible - again, not here to defend the guy).

Lastly, nobody should be surprised by this. Guy wasn't John Hammond's protege for nothing. Hammond made a career out of being the company man. Surely, Horsty must've picked up some tricks from the ol' cockroach.

Horst and Giannis have a relationship. We saw them do that ropa-dopa routine two years ago when Giannis says he might leave, Horst makes the deal for Dame (and Portland thinks the draft picks will be worth more) then Giannis signs the extension a couple weeks post trade.

I'm choosing to believe this means Giannis has committed for another year. Could be very wrong.

Joke franchise that lucked into a title based on Giannis’ greatness.

Can you imagine the optics of losing a 3rd straight season in the first round of the playoffs with one of the greatest players of all time AND then announcing the extension?

I think Horst is decent (around average) GM that doesn't have actual control of this team, at least since the new ownership arrived. My guess is that he wanted out to Detroit and the Owners told him no but that they would agree to extend him.

As the vultures are circling on Giannis, especially if we lose this series, they want the appearance that all is well in MKE. If not, they risk 24/7 'Will Giannis as out' coverage for the rest of year.

They probably figured it would be more awkward to announce it after a sweep and another first round exit.

Never going to knock horst for the hustle. I once too was employed by a national delivery service and if i were to be offered the Bucks GM job overr the fedex job, i would gladly take the bucks GM job and do whatever my employers told me to keep that bucks gm job.

People forget Horst, video coordinator at the time Ross Geiger and a few others helped Giannis learn how to drive and showed him the ropes as an 18-year-old. I think Horst and Giannis have a stronger connection than people realize.

100%.

I'm viewing this announcement as a positive for Giannis allowing a re-tool this summer.

The Bucks finishing 5th seems about right to me. They are a 5th-seed type team. 4th wouldn't have shocked me, but 3rd would have felt like overachieving.

Basically Horst and the current administration didn't tank the team but also didn't do enough to elevate it. Is that worth an extension? Apparently yes. I hope he figures some things out in the off-season. I'm sure he's already figured out who's next up on the vet minimum shooting guard merry-go-round.

Im feeling that way too. Initially felt a little bit of anger reading the announcement. Always liked Horst but the two coaches and then the Kuzma trade soured me quickly. I know it’s not all his fault but someone has to take the blame.

But after thinking about it, I think this doesn’t get done without some type of understanding with Giannis. Could be completely wrong because nobody knows what’s going on in the building or the mind of Giannis but this could be fine/positive.

Keeping Giannis is the most important thing moving forward. Maybe it’s a cold, hard calculated move that’s out there to trade him for a better future but I don’t think it’s worth it anymore. I used to be there but I think it’s just better to keep him.

I'm with you on that. To use the cliche, the grass is always greener...

But, ownership needs to let Horst pick the coach. Didn't he want Atkinson and ownership wanted Doc?

Honestly doesn't matter what we get in a Giannis trade. I won't be around to care.
We are not trading Giannis.

Not dominant, but I kind of like Joel Parra as the kind of player who would somehow be exactly as good in the NBA as he is in Euroleague.
