Jalen Green

Post#1 » by durantbird » Thu Apr 24, 2025 8:01 am

Does Green have all star potential? All NBA? Will his pick at #2 be considered justifiable, considering he was picked ahead of guys like Mobley, Barnes, Wagner and Sengun?

He seemed to have raw potential early in his career, even though he entered the league very young. He's been beaten a lot as a non efficient scorer and nothing more, but can he be more than that?

Him being picked second is only unjustifiable if you consider where the players of his draft class are now. At the time he was considered a top three prospect going into that draft.

He's 6-4 and can score some, but those guys are everywhere in the NBA. For every performance he has like last night's, he has one where he goes 5-19 and scores 14. So I don't see him as ever being an all-star or getting All-NBA honors.

Interesting to note that despite being a terrorist on paper (-100 TS Add three straight seasons), has never hit 55% TS% in a season), Jalen has started to grade positively in offensive impact metrics

- EPM: +1.0 off, -1.1 def, -0.1 ovr

- LEBRON: +0.6 off, -0.4 def, +0.2 ovr

- DPM: +1.5 off, -0.9 def, +0.6 ovr

I admittedly don't actually see this in his game - there's nothing that he does consistently positively that instills me with much hope. Good finishing, maybe, but he also doesn't get to the line at a high enough rate. Shoots a lot of threes but not at a good clip and his FT% isn't great either.

He just turned 23 so I'm not yet ready to write off the possibility of him one day having an All-Star level season, but he has a ways to go and yeah he's never going to be the 2nd best player in his class

He looked like an All Star last night. I’m gonna assume consistency is a big issue with him cause he wasn’t good in game 1.

When his three is falling, he's dangerous. Before this year, he was also pretty decent at drawing fouls.

Otherwise, he's below average at the rim, below average on his short game, poor on his mid-range game, inconsistent when he uses the long two (though that's less important these days) and his 3pt shooting (while quite significant in volume) is a bit below average even in his career-high season this year. Not a great deal of improvement to this point, either.

He's 22 and just finished his 4th RS where he basically sucked most of the year as a scorer except in January. Obviously just had a massive game 2 (8/18 from 3 on a night where he took 25 shots overall).

He's an athletic combo guard without tons of elite skills at the moment, though his handle is pretty nice.

So it's tough to get a bead on him, at least for me right now. When the 3 is falling, he looks good. Otherwise, he looks extremely pedestrian. Defense seems improved but from an offensive standpoint? Eh. But we'll have to see. He did have his best year from 3, so that's something. Always tough to bring a critique on a player right after a huge game, but he also isn't often going to be shooting 8/18 from downtown (especially since he's never had a season of 36%+ from 3), so I don't know how much it really matters.
