Yeah, Horst winning a power struggle with the owners and Doc is certainly not the first thing that comes to my mind.

Not necessarily, because if you're Doc, you want to always be known as the alpha. So make people think it was your idea to extend Horst.

And again, I'm going with Doc getting canned if they get swept out by Indy. If Doc is still coach, then we know he's still running things.

Bucks also have a conveniently missing Front Office position that could be below the owners but above the GM.

I don't see him resigning. Best case scenario is a re-assignment to "Special Advisor" or some other title he can fulfill from Winter Park.

I know there have been some "rumors" that Horst wanted Atkinson over Griffin and Doc. But I'm not sure I believe that. It sounds like copium to me. But even if there was truth to that, the fact that they overruled him twice tells me he's, at best, ineffectual at one of the most important aspects of his job.

Doc isn't surviving a 1st round exit with a fully healthy roster. That's about the only thing I'm confident in. I'd even imagine the POBO promotion is in jeopardy as well because this is playing out almost exactly like the Kidd situation nearly a decade ago. Kidd was Lasry's "buddy" as well but the owners have every incentive to make this Giannis window work. If the team ain't winning then they're not gonna just sit on their hands.

The timing of this has to mean Horst is going to get one more chance at building a team around Giannis (new coach, Dame trade) or (gulp) the guy to orchestrate a Giannis trade. If everything is still being evaluated, then they just wait another week or two before an extension. The timing strongly hints that Horst is the main roster builder moving forward (over Doc, new coach, etc).

Doc should be behind bars before he is associated with the Bucks in any capacity next year, even in a "special advisor" role. Get him away from this organization at all costs. Words cannot describe how much I despise this man for flagrantly wasting a prime Giannis season.

Hope so, and hope signing him right now 0-2 was the big F u to doc. But it also means Doc is going to continue self sabotage. See you all in October unless Doc is fired tonight.

Coming to you in theaters, John Horst will do something.

It’s rumored to be $3M annually. I’d happily be a voiceless errand boy while getting to go to NBA games for free for far less than that.

Worst case, eventually they make you the fall guy and you relax for a couple years until you land another GM or AGM job.

The only requirement for Horst to keep his job was to extend Giannis. He gets points for being likeable and getting close with Giannis. I think he even taught Giannis how to drive. GM wise, he's mostly terrible. He needs to acknowledge this and bring in the right people around him.

Well, I will be ok with Horst remaining if he doesn’t try trading Giannis. That is the worst thing possible for me and I would think for the entire franchise and fanbase at this point. The attendance at games will plummet and so too for the tv audience.

If we get knocked out in this round without a fight, we have to trade Dame and get either a star or a bunch of strong players who are young and have balanced strength in defense and offense.

We have to not re sign Lopez I think.

We have to try our utmost to get rid of Kuzma.

And get an innovative coach (a Brad Stevens type).

We could trade Kuzma in the offseason OR we could make an unemotional decision to not trade him, hope he actually at least hits career norms unlike this yr, then decide if we want to deal him next deadline or not. Last season's deadline he had positive trade value reportedly.

It was partially a bet he'd bounceback this yr, which has backfired thus far. One would be remiss to compound that by moving him now. It'd be calamitous "asset management, which the Bucks have shown previously. Sure, why not attach another AJJ (we don't have) to him.

I like Horst. I think Bucks would be in a better position if he had more power. This has actually been the problem with him. He has done too many favours to Giannis and the owners. Most of them have backfired.

Who’s the next Norm Powell? I don’t mean as the player, but someone in a similar situation.

A guy we think we know, but then gets a better opportunity as he moves up in the pecking order and flourishes.

It probably wasn’t all that long ago that the clippers were actively shopping him, and this year he’s been a very capable third option for them.

Thought you were wondering who we could trade for the next Grievis Vasquez.
