Re: 2025 NBA Draft
I'm not unhappy, for the most part, with Weltman's drafting record. Maybe we need a "trade specialist" just like we need a "offensive specialist" next to Mose.
I think I'm kidding but now not sure.

come again?? This narrative is completely false.
Isaac- Ill give injury excuse
Bamba - just worse than Jett. Actually maybe worse considering what was on the board
Paolo - pick 1 no brainer. Dont believe any GM would of picked Jabari.
Suggs- Fell cos raptors chose Scottie
Franz- This is the one ill give him credit for. However, the shot needs to get better
Chuma- First rounder on a bloke who was a reach even before he did his **** ACL before draft
Cole- Yuck
AB- Not looking great. Rotation player sure. But pick 6?
Jett- Worse pick than Fran Vasquez
TDS- 24 yr old rookie who had an ok 3 games at start of year and has done nothing since. We don't have Coby White cos Weltman wouldn't add him to the package!!!!!
Caleb - Not a disaster.
Without looking, I bet all the second rounders we gave away for cash would probably be a better lot than our first round picks. Comical he still has a job
Some revisionist history here
Issac - Agreed injury excuse
Bamba- What else was on the board that interested you? Put yourself back in 2018. Nobody saw SGA is coming including the team that drafted him as they traded him. Bamba was sadly the BPA at the time. Now where I was pissed is I felt like we should have tried harder to make a trade to move up to get Trae or Luka. I didn't want Bamba either but I wasn't mad cause of how the draft worked out. That was a bad night for me.
Paolo- was NOT a no brainer. For me it was a no brainer but go back to that time and alot of people didn't feel that way. Go look up the threads on the draft on this forum. Most mocks had Paolo 3rd.Gotta give him props for that selection
Franz- You HAVE to give him props for that one. That was outta no where. I was pissed about that selection, and I was dead wrong and he was dead on correct. And I wasn't the only one killing him over that pick. There was egg on alot of faces. Thats honestly his finest moment
Suggs- Yea he fell to him. Fair. Still had to make the pick though

Chuma - I understood the pick. Where we were in the draft it was worth taking the reach on a guy that woulda been picked earlier if not for injury
Cole- Bad pick
AB - Bad fit. So yea probably bad pick
TDS - Looked solid earlier in the year. Just out of rotation. Certainly doesn't look great
Jett- Bad pick
Caleb- I agree decent value
So yea its fair to be crtical but the picks he NEEDED to hit he hit and they weren;t no brainers.

Good fair takes...I agree with all of them...If Bamba was in the draft this year, I'd pick him so fast again. He's (in theory) EXACTLY what we need. Franz was the jewel among all of his picks and, whether it was kind of lucky or not, he deserves props for that. To be honest, if he really saw Franz's future, he would have taken him at Suggs' spot, but still - heckuva draft. I still think TdS was a rock solid, but also pretty obvious pick. He'll be a solid rotation piece for years if Mose plays him, imo.

Yeah... as much as a lot hate it... WeHam deserves accolades in drafting Suggs/Franz/Paolo.
And for revisionists... those were not consensus picks approved by all.

Ok we are doing this again...
Isaac - team just traded for Ibaka and already had Aaron Gordon.Team's point guards were Elfrid Payton, CJ Watson, and DJ Augustine. People were high on Dennis Smith Jr, but Donovan Mitchell and Malik Monk were also available. (Good for drafting a guy still in the league. Still an Injury liability) Neutral Grade
Bamba - Drafted him after a tank season to an amazing draft. Vuc was still on the roster and they were "evaluating". Point guards were still **** and Fournier/Ross were one foot out the door. The entire reason you don't select BPA before a teardown. Complete bust. Negative Grade
Chuma - Poor reasoning to select a player. Traded for Fultz during this time (more on that later). Guards were STILL trash. Ty Jerome was in this draft as were many other guards/wings that are starters today. The rationale doesnt even make sense. Weltman overpays Aminu so he can skimp on actual decisions prior to a forced rebuild? Why? Negative grade
Cole - Bad pick - many better wings and point guards available. Negative grade.
Franz - Good pick - Under the radar for who people wanted. Positive grade
Suggs - BPA and needed a guard - Didn't overthink it. Positive grade
Paolo - Choice was between a role player skillset Jabari Smith and a defensive injury prone question Center for the #1 pick Orlando's offense was terrible so this was a little more obvious than people thought. Wasn't bidding against anyone with the #1 pick. Didn't overthink it. Positive grade
AB - Orlando needed a guard and he was considered the highest upside guy on the board and meets Weltman's fetish for length at every position. Better than drafting a random PF that would never get minutes.(Walker/Hendricks) Positive grade.
Jett - Terrible pick on many levels. Nowhere mocked in the 11 range. SO many other selections could have been made. Lively would be starting on this team. Negative grade.
TDS - Jury still out. He isnt getting minutes right now but he looks capable. Neutral Grade
Weltman by my estimation is
4 Positive
4 Negative
2 Neutral
He's been good at the top of the draft and ass anywhere outside of the top 10. Based on his track record I wouldn't trust him making selections past 10.

Re: 2025 NBA Draft
There's just NOTHING special about Weltman being a drafter. Any GM should be able to do what he did.
What's frustrating is that he could do MORE. Trading picks for players. Trading multiple picks to move up. Using your draft savvy to hit on 2nd round picks. He's shown none of that. He's done what an average forum poster could do. What's so special about his make up as a GM?

that's what I'm referring to...Suggs was expected to be gone, when he dropped to us, there was no decision to make.

To be fair, Cole was ok until… we moved on from buddy ball… it simply all went downhill from there.

Walter Clayton is already a great shooter. I'm thinking maybe we should just take him at 16.
