Not surprised and not really disappointed. Just don't have a lot of faith in our ability to assess edge rushers given our track record at that position.

I was holding out a bit of hope that someone would move up for Sanders.

Putting some faith in Kocurek to develop Williams. He hasn't done much of that lately. Here's to hoping he is able to do so here. Guy has talent, but needs a lot of pass rush refinement.

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
I’d mocked out a lot of Mykel picks but always after trading back some. But it was clear if no one big dropped he’d be amongst the more likely choices, and as trading back was seeming less and less profitable…I guess I had kinda convinced myself someone big would drop. Ah, well.

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
Williams was my favorite edge pick, unless we somehow were okay with Mike Green (which I never really believed). He should be a pretty safe pick at the very least, and help us address our run defense. Need two DTs in this draft at a minimum. And let's all pray again either that Trent doesn't get hurt or that Burford can be a decent swing tackle.

But everything that goes to Cleveland by definition drops off the edge.

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
I am excited for a rookie DL again, hopefully he can really flourish learning from Bosa, Saleh, and Kocurek.

Kocurek makes his hay by coaching up castoffs/former busts/scrap heap pickups/etc. He does a rock solid job of mining production out of those types of guys. He doesn't have a great track record of developing higher end type of prospects or getting a lot out of expensive free agents.

Besides Drake Jackson who I feel like was developing into a decent depth piece before injuries, who have we really drafted at the DL position recently? We haven't drafted one in the last 3 years besides Kalia Davis in the 6th round. We haven't put enough resources in the DL through the draft

Got to hope for a run on DEs in the late-first and early-second.

Jesus, looking back at the drafts. The last 4 years we have drafted 2 DL (Davis and Jackson) and Robert Beal who switched to DL. I hope we go back to investing in the DL through the draft more. Our defense were the best when we drafted heavy DL

Besides Bosa who was a no brainer pick, this regime is pretty bad with drafting Dlineman at the top of the draft.

I mean Kinlaw is on his 3rd contract and just got a pretty decent amount of money so I wouldn't say he was bad, he just had injuries with us which was a concern. I think we need to invest more, Drake Jackson and Robert Beal were both OLB at least according to football reference. Solomon Thomas I feel like was a little undersized too.

Hopefully we get some type of run here on WRs, DBs, and QBs, we need some OTs/DTs to fall to the second.

McGlinchey got a massive contract, and Jaylon Moore just got Paid. I'm not sure gauging contract figures is a great way to evaluate a player. Also worth noting that Kinlaw signed a 1 year show me/prove it type of contract coming off his rookie deal. So saying he's on his 3rd contract, while entirely true, is a tad misleading.
Sure injuries were a factor, but Kinlaw was a massive disappointment. Especially since the chain events leading to that pick, led us to believe he was supposed to step in and be a fair amount of what Buckner was.
Jackson was drafted to play DE for SF, that's all that matters when evaluating the pick.

only reason Kinlaw got that contract was the dude that drafted him gave it to him
but yea, our track record selecting DL is abysmal under this regime. i do think Mykel has the potential to break that streak though.
