What is a TRAVEL in the NBA?

What about palming? You maybe see that called once a season. Why do they almost never call that?

What about goal tending? Should the NBA use FIBA rules? I forget what the difference is. I think you can touch the ball when it's over the rim. Something like that.

they need to more clearly define what a travel is. when 10 people can watch a replay in slow motion, frame by frame, and 5 people claim its a travel, 5 claim it's legal, the rule is not properly defined. the grey area leads to it being selectively enforced and it's frustrating and sloppy for players and fans.

Just to clarify, the gather "step" is not a single step, it's a concept of steps that easily be 5 or more if done correctly.

Just like in the video. Thus, a lot of the "he took 6 steps" talk is just a regular gather step.

The 5 who say it's a travel usually don't know the rules or are applying pre 2016 or high school / ncaa basketball rules.

Fans and streetball players take the longest to adjust. When I play pick up basketball it seems as though travel rules from the past are being used. I avoid using gather steps and such because it will lead to arguments. However, when I'm playing a league game with a FIBA referee I know they'll usually be up to date.

It's a hesi. That's how players are able to make the ball immune to gravity.

There's no rule about the ball being "above the cylinder". Once it has hit the rim it's fair game.
