We couldn't have waited until at least our second third to take Martin? Look at the fkn names going after him lol

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
Not gonna pretend that I'm thrilled with the Martin pick, but he does bring quickness, a burst to close in on runners, and the ability to blitz. His size and play-style is similar to a poor-man's Dre Greenlaw. Greenlaw had one of his listed weights as 229 compared to Martin's 221 and Dre ran a 4.53 40 at his Arkansas pro day (ignoring his 4.73 on a bad hammy at the combine), same as Martin's 4.53 at the combine. Perhaps not a highly-regarded pick in a vacuum, but if Saleh is looking to someone who at least has some similarity to Greenlaw's size and style, I guess that is why they made the pick.

Raiders take Grant right before our pick; thought he'd be a good pick as a true LT for us.

Don't really get the Upton Stout selection when a physical specimen like Zah Frazier was available.

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
Gonna be huge up front and tiny on the back end. I probably would have gone Riley, but CB is a need. Would have preferred CB at 75 and Martin here. Or Martin in the 5th.

can always count on niners to throw curve balls for their 3rd round picks, it's a curse.

those draft experts who wrote articles saying niners should trade brock to move up to draft sanders are looking hilarious right now

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
I can't believe Kyle held back from grabbing a RB or WR in the 3rd. Must have committed to let Saleh get the day 1 and 2 picks to come back as DC

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
yea, looks like we're going big/strong against the run up front, and lighter/quicker in the back with some big hit potential. both Martin/Stout are big hitters even if they are on the smaller side.
still not a fan of how we operate the draft.

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
good thing there is still really good talent left (this class is just crazy deep), we'll probably hit offense in the 4th:
RBs: Skatt, Martinez, Giddens
WRs: Ayomanor, Royals, Tory Horton, Chimere Dike
TEs: Fidone
OL: Logan Brown, Chase Lundt, Miles Frazier, Esa Pole (we brought in for visit), Jake Majors

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
Thoughts on the draft so far.
Love the approach though I'm not knowledgable enough of the player to say if they are the right picks are not but they every pick has addressed a big need and should be day 1 starters or at least contributors. Our Run D went from awful to pretty good (on paper at least) in just two days.
Like the fact we haven't had the typical fluff or luxury picks as we've had in the past. In fact I'd say this draft and last year's draft have been pretty focused.
Very much a Saleh draft as these picks appear to be clones of guys Saleh has had in the past and he seems intent on rebuilding the defense back into his image.
My guess and takeaway is they don't know how long they are going to have Saleh so there is a sense of urgency to focus on the defense while he's here and get the guys he wants along with getting them groomed in his system so when he does leave the car has been completely restored and he just needs to hand the keys off to the next guy.
Also like I said a few weeks ago the team probably sees the offense as fine. Not that it can't be upgraded or be better but if you look at the lineup we'll field next season it's going to be a top 10 if not top 5 offense. The big issue they have to solve is the redzone but they are good between the 20s.
Simply put the biggest impact was going to be to improve the defense in the draft specifically the run D and that's seems like what the lasered in on.

Kinda see it the same way.
Let the beefy up front occupy their blocks and keep the fast guys free to swarm the ball carrier.
From what I understand Martin and Stout are good blitzers so I do think they want to get more exotic and bring the blitz more.
Honestly I hope they are good blitzers because man even when we did blitz last season it was pathetic. Guess couldn't time it very well and it seemed like they would just run straight into blockers all the time.
Focus has been put on Collin's pass rush ability or lack thereof but I do think people are missing an aspect of his game that should improve the pass rush in general and his ability to occupy blocks should open up the stunt game for Bosa and Mykel along with blitzs from Martin or Warner.

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
First pick this morning has to be RB or WR. They need depth. If JJ or CMC goes down, this team is in trouble

Re: 2025 nfl draft thread
Not super in love with Day 2. Started off ok, clearly stopping the run was the priority. Before we released half the team I had thought this was finally the year to address the OL higher in the draft, but given all the holes created I can see the rationale for prioritizing the D, and I don’t even object to the concept of big cloggers up front with heat-seeking missiles behind, but as they so often seem to do, the Niners paid little attention to the board once they decided who they want later on.
Or their intel was vastly different than anyone else’s, and to be fair they have at times been supported in this, for example what team was looking at a kicker fairly soon after we drafted Moody? But it still feels like our organizational Achilles heel, beyond injuries, is arrogance and it plays out in the draft as on the field, we know what we want and that’s all we need to know. I guess there’s an argument for that if you really know your guy, but it feels like we throw away a few rounds’ value pretty much every draft by reaching.
