Assumes Spurs don't move up in lottery.
Keldon Johnson/#8 for Cam Johnson/#26
Spurs upgrade their forward spot while still being able to do Spurs things and find a player late in the draft
Nets move up to get a really nice prospect and don't take on additional salary

Re: Spurs/Nets
Seems like a huge overpay by the Spurs. The market for C.Johnson doesn't seem strong either given he wasn't moved at the deadline.

Re: Spurs/Nets
yes all players not traded at the deadline had their value cut by 2/3..... It might be an overpay, but that has no relevance my friend.

Re: Spurs/Nets
I think the Spurs would need #20 and then they kick in a couple 2nds.

I started with that pick....then decided to drop it down. Thanks for the value feedback.

At that point (#26 vs #20/2nds) is really splitting hairs

Is Cam Johnson even worth a lotto pick? I doubt it. Certainly not #8. I don't see any logic to trading #8 for him, when the Nets seemingly couldn't get even bad firsts for him last season. He's just not enough of a difference maker.

Re: Spurs/Nets
I don't have any interest in this. The Spurs are not in a win-now position. It's one thing to give up a top-10 pick for Durant, since KD could theoretically put them into that position. Cam Johnson isn't there, and the 26th or 20th pick doesn't change that. Of course, perhaps the Spurs hate the board at 8 just as they seemed to last year. Using the pick to target someone they want would make sense. But they shouldn't fool themselves into believing they "have enough young players", because most of the young players they have aren't good enough.
I'd prefer them to trade down or out of 8 than take Cam. I'd prefer they use the pick, but if they don't want to, then converting it into a new asset for a real trade makes more sense.

Re: Spurs/Nets
appreciate the feedback. Just for clarification its not about me thinking they have enough young players. It's about me thinking a team with Wemby/Fox should be thinking playoffs immediately. And if you are thinking playoffs you should be thinking we want to be competitive and have a chance to win a series. I don't see 8 as a premium asset and I see Cam as a really good fit for San Antonio.
That's all.
That's all.

I'm much more cautionary on Wemby than most folks -- especially Spurs fans. I don't see him as someone who has an accelerated timeline. I think the Spurs COULD be further along, if Vassell can settle into a complimentary role and become efficient on both ends. But a lot of people think that Victor, Fox and Castle are already the team's "big three" and now it's about filling in the cracks. I do not agree with that. I think Castle has a long way to go to be thought of in that light. I don't even think he should be inked in as a starter next year given his lack of shooting and currently bad defense.
So for me, it's either a) Get that third star and actually accelerate the timeline or b) Accept that you need more seasons to develop and continue to draft. For me, this trade is in between those two paths. It's not completely without merit, but the Spurs are basically banking on Castle taking huge leaps very soon or them being able to pull out another trade for that star to go with Cam and the others. Like if they were to trade Vassell and Barnes for Durant and then also trade Keldon and picks for Cam, then it would make a fair bit of sense. But as an incremental step, 8 is too high of a pick to trade.
