He's nearly identical to Greenlaw in physical measurements and had a similar play style. Other than the chances of getting him later in the draft, what's not to like?
it's pretty obvious he's the Greenlaw replacement but the draft position is the rub, Greenlaw himself was drafted in the 5th. these guys just typically don't go as high as the third.
I'm not super caught up on draft value these days but are we saying inside lbs that can tackle, blitz, and cover aren't with 3rd round picks? If he's greenlaw for the next 4-5 years, it's a great pick and, personally, I will not care if he was 3rd, 4th, or 5th round.
I believe greenlaw was projected as "an immediate contributor on special teams", hence his 5th round slot. If it was "projects as an all-pro in 3 years", i think he would have gone higher
yes, if he reaches his ceiling and he's the next Greenlaw no one will complain about the pick, but you can say that about everyone else we could've drafted at that point so that's not really an argument.
the Rams just drafted a similar player in Chris Paul Jr at the end of the 5th, same round Eagles got athletic freak from Georgia at LB in Smael Mondon, Cowboys in the 5th took another LB with a similar profile to Martin in Shemar Jones. no legitimate argument can be made that Nick Martin is a whole two rounds ahead of these guys, I'm sorry.
the FO just displaying the same level of hubris when they drafted a **** kicker in the third, but at least Martin is not gonna be a bust like Moody is hopefully.
