Best offer for Morant

At this point, Memphis needs to move on. What do you think is the best deal they can get for Ja?

Probably nothing worth moving him for.

From Utah I'd offer expiring salary (Collins + Sexton or Clarkson) + 2 decent 1sts. Or some of our current young guys in place of picks. Could be talked into 3 pieces if they're unlikely to be high value. Or maybe just this seasons pick if it's not #1.

He's a good player, young, contract is alright. Injuries/off court stuff not the best. Not really willing to offer 'fair' value, so probably no interest from Memphis. See this as similar to what the Spurs paid for Fox.

Morant/Lauri/Kessler + a bunch of young guys.

Lets just ignore the personnel and off-court stuff aside, despite that, Jas value probably peaked after 22-23 season. His health is a big concern. The fact that he just completed his 6th season and his rookie season was his healthiest is not reassuring. No GM is going to offer Donovan Mitchell level package for him. Memphis would be better off hanging on to him. JJJ is prob the one more likely to be moved.

The Grizzlies shouldn't and won't move Morant.

I won't lie, I don't think I'd even offer that. Always hurt, bad shooter. Obviously amazing when healthy, but we've seen this movie before and I'd rather not have it play out on my team. I also think Memphis would and should demand more.

For funsies, though:
FVV + 2025 PHX 1st (9) + 2027 PHX 1st + 2029 PHX/HOU/DAL 1st (most favorable) for Ja

Memphis is probably still a playoff team after this, and they have some really nice assets to move for a star next to JJJ. Maybe Booker becomes available if Phoenix realizes that they are dead in the water?

Houston does this if they think Ja is a top-10 player when healthy and I kinda like the offensive fit with Sengun?

KCP, Cole Anthony (or Jonathan Isaac), #16, #25, 2026 frp (top 5 protected)

I think the best player available for that offer would be far worse than Ja.

That’s the reality of trading a star with issues (personal, professional & physical)…you’ll get pieces back, most likely. Probably do better than this elsewhere (at least in terms of win-now players), but ORL won’t likely give up any of their big 3 for Ja, so a solid vet, a fill-in bench PG with a Team Option for matching salary…and three frps. I don’t know that Ja pulls that many frps elsewhere in his current state.

I don't see Orlando making a trade for Ja b/c of their salary structure, but if they did replace Suggs with Ja I feel like their ceiling as a team is definitely higher than now. So, I disagree that they wouldn't put something real on the table if they were interested.

If they were interested is the key…many ORL fans don’t think ownership would touch Ja because of the off-court stuff. I don’t know, I sure would.

Suggs is really the heartbeat of the team and probably #1 fan favorite…I wouldn’t say untouchable, but not likely for anyone with questions.

Who cares what anyone thinks about Ja in Orlando or about Suggs in Memphis.

This. Nothing to discuss here. Ja stays in Memphis for so long as he wants to. He is our icon, heart and spirit.

Unoriginal, but I really like Sabonis/Monk for Clarke/Konchar/Ja... The Grizzlies showed their best basketball this year, playing as a team, focused on team play and I think Sabonis would be a very good fit, especially considering how well they complement flaws and strengths. Domantas/JJJ with Monk get a "similar" archetype to Ja, as a scoring, super athletic guard who also already has great chemistry with Sabonis...
They would definitely be a better team at the end of the day...

Sabonis/Edey
JJJ/Aldama
Wells/GG
Bane/Vincent
Pippen/Monk

For the Kings, it's getting the most spectacular/showy player with the highest ceiling + Clarke gives him a good PnR partner with whom he has good chemistry (if miraculously, he manages to stay healthy). Obviously they would need to make more moves to better fit Ja's game and especially that of his coach (who curiously was an excellent defender and could have the worst defensive pieces among teams trying to compete), so the next step could be converting DDR/Valanciunas + Economic Flexibility + FRP in Gobert (who I think could be available)

Very interesting fit with Sabonis & JJJ...I don't really understand what the problem is with Sabonis. On paper, he's perfectly complemented by a big who blocks shots & hits 3's but it never took off with Myles Turner, but I'm not sure why. I really like Sabonis and it seems like a perfect fit with Sabonis piling up rebounds and assists while JJJ blocks everything and spreads the floor. Bane plays off of Sabonis as a secondary playmaker. Pippen seems ready to take a step up too....again, it would seem that Sabonis is a great fit...but they'd still have a legit PG in Pippen, just not as wholly ball-dominant as Ja.

I think if ORL is calling they’re trying to get Bane not Ja. I do like the Kings idea.

Maybe KD for Ja?
Dame for Ja?
MPJ ++?

No way ORL adds yet another Suggs type who makes north of $35-40m while still missing a PG. Bane is a LOT better player than KCP, but it doesn't address their most glaring need and it crushes any future financial flexibility (which was already limited as the extensions kick in)

Why? Orlando needs a starting PG more than an another SG while still trying to make Suggs into a PG he just isn’t.
