Carlo Ancelotti, Florentino Perez To Discuss Potential Madrid Exit

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Apr 28, 2025 12:14 am

Carlo Ancelotti will meet with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez in the coming days to discuss his potential departure from the club, sources told ESPN.

The Italian manager, who has a contract with Madrid until 2026, could leave after the final LaLiga match of the season against Real Sociedad following recent disappointing results. Madrid suffered a 3-2 extra-time defeat to Barcelona in Saturday\'s Copa del Rey final and were eliminated from the Champions League by Arsenal in the quarterfinals earlier this month.

According to sources, discussions between the Brazilian Football Confederation and Ancelotti\'s representatives regarding the national team position have resumed, fueling speculation about his future at the Bernabéu. Madrid currently sit four points behind Barcelona in LaLiga with five matches remaining.

Ancelotti is one of the most successful coaches in Madrid\'s history, having won three Champions League titles and two LaLiga championships across his two spells at the club. However, recent performances have raised questions about his continuation at the helm.

Should Ancelotti depart, sources indicate the most likely short-term scenario would involve an internal interim appointment to lead the team in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, which begins June 18. Potential candidates include director of football Santiago Solari, Castilla coach Raúl González, or under-19s coach Álvaro Arbeloa.

When questioned about his future following Saturday\'s Copa del Rey final loss, Ancelotti remained noncommittal, saying: \"Whether I continue [at Madrid] is an issue for the coming weeks, not for today.\"

\"We\'re still competing for trophies,\" Ancelotti said on April 19. \"I don\'t want to talk about my future. We\'ll talk about it with the club at the end of the season.\"

\"I\'ve always had a great relationship with the club. There\'ll be no confrontation,\" the Italian manager added.
