If we can do these things … 8-8
Question: is Sauce Gardner overrated?
I swear I've heard this before, like . . . every year. I don't think they have the means or the cap space to fix the offensive line, but in your defense, you said "improve", not fix, so that's possible. With a running QB is an O-line more important or less important? I'm thinking less, but I'm not very smart.
Mougey looks like he's focusing on defense, but it's early. Still some moves to be made. Will the Jets draft an Offensive Lineman with their #7 pick? A defensive lineman? They seem to be set in cornerbacks and I hope they don't take Jeanty. They have too many other needs to go RB. The highly rated QBs will likely be gone by #7. Will they make a trade? Trade back or trade up?
So many ways it could go. I hope Mougey knows his stuff. He's well respected. I hope Glenn knows his stuff too. Maybe they'll put something together and ruin a perfectly good tank. (kidding). But really, I have no idea what to even guess as for their record. 3 wins wouldn't surprise me. Neither would 7 or 8. Maybe 9 if everything breaks right. But probably not 9.
Oh, and Wingo, 17 games now. But they could go 8-8-1.
Who would you draft at #7? Ideally

The problem with the offensive line is that if they don't gel, you can have all the names on paper but they don't perform. Throw in injuries to AVT who I love every year, injury to Smith, it's hard to build that chemistry. On paper at the moment, the Jets are bringing back 4 guys on the line. If Fashanu takes over LT, all we really need is a RT and some health.
Fashanu, Simpson, Tippman, AVT is not bad at all, just need to stay healthy.
The argument for a OT is that you look at teams like the Lions, Chargers, Colts/Cowboys from a few years ago is that it helps masquerade a QB and really helps the running game. If you can establish the run, in theory the defense has to have an extra guy in the box to help and it frees up Wilson. Now I'm not saying take a tackle, but it wouldn't annoy me.
Looking at what's left in free agency, most of the players are just going to be stop gap players, nothing really long term. We need defensive help, we need a WR, maybe a tight end because they don't seem invested in making Ruckert a starter, but he like Wilson also played with Fields in college.
Tyler Warren would make a lot of sense there, but the crowd that didn't want Bowers last year are probably still the same with Warren this year. With a new coach/GM, it'll be interesting to see which way they go but at the end of the day I think it'll be a defensive player.
Jazz: Under reconstruction, we'll be back.
