What the Kings should do this offseason..
The annual thread where we don the GM suit... The Kings are eliminated and lack any FRP, so we can start with them... Feel free to draw your ideal offseason, although it seems the owner isn't willing to go under completely.

Sacramento might not have their pick this year, but they should do everything to maximize their chances at a high pick next season.
Start with trading Sabonis for a pick in this year’s top 4. I think the top 2 are unlikely to move, but 3 & 4 should be viable.
Basically consider moving anyone including Keegan.

Re: What the Kings should do this offseason..
If the Spurs are open to trading their pick for Sabonis, and they should be assuming Wemby is fine, I'd start there.
I'd take the Mavs temperature on taking in DDR while Kyrie recovers.
But really, it all starts with the owner hiring a GM who knows what he's doing and is going to be permitted to do his job without reaching for treadmill now moves.

Pick? He will command a lot as an all nba type. But yes, not the current direction

Zero chance the Spurs do this. Sabonis can only play the 5, and that's Wemby's spot. In a vacuum, some teams would give up that pick for Sabonis, but the Spurs won't, so it'd need to be a 3-way. That pick has the potential to be pretty juicy too, so it's not exactly a throw in.

Its not just Sabonis, the team is filled with vets.. from monk to Lavine to jv to demar, keon and Keegan aren't extremely young, etc..
the west is aging, and the team hasn't tried to augment with capital yet and the team may have a new coach altogether which you'd gauge the team with first.

First - DDR for McConnell/Toppin. Kings send DDR to a place he can compete.
Second - Spurs unprotected 27 for #15. OKC moves value forward and still has a pick.
Third - Minny unprotected 31 for #14. Spurs move value forward and still have a pick.
Draft Fleming/Saraf
Sabonis/JV
Toppin/Fleming (flipping eventually)
Keegan/LaRavia?/Zach/Carter
Zach/Ellis/Carter/Monk
McConnell/Monk/Saraf
Its a straightforward way to get the athleticism and length needed in the front court (two 6’9’’ guys/pushing Keegan to the SF), along with a PG to hold things together and a drafted PG…with Monk still on the team as a secondary ball handler.
Plus Sac would still have the MLE and TPEs and a 2nd rounder. They keep all their future picks.

Not liking the picks thing
You hope those picks jump than being enamored with middle first rounders

Those picks are getting moved for talent to put on the court next season. Perry doesn’t have a viable alternative sense they’ve made it clear they aren’t blowing it up and moving Sac’s own picks would be stupid. Those two picks are getting converted, I’d rather young talent than retread vets.

mid first rounders aren't talent to put on the court, vets are, if they go that route

Re: What the Kings should do this offseason..
What they should and what they will do are very different. They should commit to rebuilding, they will likely add to their core. I hope they don't, Kings fans deserve much better.

I think you're wildly overrating Sabonis' trade value.

I don't think OKC or the Spurs would do that. Not impossible, but unlikely.

Re: What the Kings should do this offseason..
As others have said, what they should do (blow it up), won't match what they will do. At minimum they should trade sabonis before he asks out and kills any value he has at the deadline.
Trade 1: curse posted a 3 way deal with Charlotte and Utah where we swap jv/derozan for green/Collins. I like that.
Trade 2: monk to Dallas for Naji/Martin.
Give keon an extension so we don't lose him.
FA sign a pg using the MLE - Schroder comes to mind if he wants a sure thing starting role.
Now very unrealistic but I'm putting lavine on the bench as my 6th man. Hes still going to play 30mpg, I'm stuck with him but I'm not building around him. But realistically -
Sabonis/Collins
Naji/Collins
Keegan/Martin/Green
Lavine/ Keon
Schroder/Carter
This isn't a pretty roster. But it does have much more size. There are 7 capable defenders in the rotation. My hope is Keegan takes 20 shots a game next year and we see what he's got. Keon plays 30mpg.

Wildly overrating? You don't think Sabonis could land the 3rd or 4th pick in the 2025 draft? You think Ace Bailey has more trade value?
Seems fair to me depending on who lands those picks. I don't think any team would trade picks 1 or 2 for him. He'd look great in New Orleans for example.
I don't think the Kings are going to tear it down either way. They should though.

See if you can get Giannis for a volume package (Murray, Carter, 5-6 firsts, whatever Monk gets from third team..)
You get outbid once someone offers a true center piece, but if those teams don’t want to pay it can probably be a competitive offer?
