I'm obviously keeping the front office who has proven to draft well, and signed KCP and other solid vets. I'm also keeping Mosely, but he has one more year before I start looking around. I still don't know what he is as a coach yet. I think both the front office and coaching have done an impeccable job instilling a winning, try hard, culture down there in ORL, and you have to respect that. Getting Wagners brother, signing champions like KCP and Joseph, and strong mentors like Harris and Ingles last year. To be #2 in defense, and to still finish 41-41 with all those missed games, as a young team, that was very impressive.

I personally think Paolo is the real deal, and is looking like the 3rd star of his decade with Ant and Wemby. I also think Franz is getting way too much hate, and think Magic fans are going to constantly hear the same arguments that Celtic's fans heard for years over Tatum and Brown. Oddly enough, I actually like the Magic guys more at this point in their careers, and think people are bugging if they want to break these guys up before they reach their prime years of 26+. These are legit 1st and 2nd options.

Ilove what I saw from Black this year and was pleasantly surprised by his passing skills. He is a modern guy who can do it all, and his stroke looks solid. I loved De Silva during the draft process, and he showed why in the early parts of the season when Paolo was out. He is just a smooth wing player, who has a silky stroke and niice ball skills. He looks to be a solid 6th man type going forward.

I think this year while not meeting expectations, answered all the questions that the FO and fans needed answered going forward. Howard is not that good, and got replaced by TDS and Black in the rotation. Goga can play, but only in certain matchups. Cole is not a part of this team, and isn't good enough of a scorer to justify his role. Suggs is incredible on D, a better Smart essentially, but his hustle and effort means he's going to always be a dude on the IR.

This team desperately needs shooting, in the worst way, and think they are in a solid spot to go and get it. They have their picks, and they have a player at ever salary spot you would want to make a move. Goga at 8 mil, Cole at 12, Isaac at 25, and Suggs at 30. I don't want to make the mistake of going for it too early with my 22 year old stars, but this team should def go big game hunting, and if not make trades to improve in the margins.

Isaac- WCJ
Paolo
Franz- Desilva
Black

I'm all for that group next year, and everyone else im trying to trade. The dream scenario is obviously getting Booker in the aftermath of the KD trade. Combining Suggs, Howard, and picks to bring in a legit guard that can shoot is priority #1, and again, i'm overpaying like crazy if I need to. Bane, Booker, Herro, Melo, Reaves, ect are the main dudes i'm gunning for. If not there are oter packages you can entertain.

I've been beatin the drum on the Anfernee Simons trade for a while now, it just makes too much sense money wise and from a team perspective. Same with Colin Sexton, and I think Magic and Utah are trading partners made in heaven right now. MAgic could use and trade for all their vets and think Colins, Sexton, and Clarkson should all be discussed.

People weren't happy in the MIA Heat thread when I suggested Duncan and 15 for Cole filler and 20, but I like that type of trade as well.

Grayson Allen from the Suns for Cole and Howard seems like solid value, maybe throw in a 2nd

Goga swapped to the Lakers for Gabe Vincent.

There are so many moves to be made to improve this team, the front office just has to stay busy. Ideally, Magic will go into the year with a lineup that looks like:

WCJ- Mo- Isaac
Paolo
Franz- Black- De Silva
Suggs- Allen
Simons- Vincent

Win 50 games, and still have the firepower to pull off another huge move if necessary. Still Top 5 in defense and probably around 12th in offense. Mosely will be retained baed off how he does in the post season that year, and if let go, that's when i'm looking for my championship level coach.

KCP has been a disaster. Yes, they hit on Suggs/Paolo/Franz. all top-8 picks and teams do mess those up. Anthony has not been great, jury is out on Black, Jett is just bad, Chuma was a bad lottery pick, Bamba was a bad pick. with glaring needs at shooting and PG, the front office has failed their job. Also, this team never uses their 2nd round picks. always traded for a pick 10 years down the line. They also cant adjust during a draft, they come in with the player they want and if a talent slides for whatever reason, they dont know what to do. they never consider coming back into the 1st using the multitude of 2nd round picks and late 1st round picks they have picked up. They traded their 2nd round pick this year (Antonio Reeves) who played in 44 games and shot 40% from 3. LAst year, could have drafted GG JAckson. yes, you dont expect a 2nd round pick to be consistent player to make a squad, they are like a lottery pick. Take a swing and see what happens. This front office never takes that swing.

So imo, no, keep some scouts but the front office needs to be changed.

They have a large hole to dig themselves out of on offense. They need a real lead playmaker and a bunch more shooting, so they've got a long way to go, but it makes sense to keep the core together and keep trying. No one expected them to beat Boston, nor to really give them even a spirited run for their money, so that's fine.

Right now, they very clearly suffer from a lack of efficient scoring, and that comes from their focal scorers as well as their supporting cast. Banchero and Wagner both put up a lot of points but shot poorly (although Paolo was killing it from 3). And they had only a single double-digit scorer besides them in WCJ. Wagner, Black, KCP, Joseph, Harris, Houstan, so much fail from 3. Outside of Paolo, against Boston the Magic shot 29/129 (22.5%) from 3. Wagner was -5.5% rTS against playoff league-average and Banchero was -4.8%. Banchero shot only 43.3% inside the arc, 7.6% worse than his RS performance (and his RS 2P% was also almost 2.5% worse than league average, he was a 93 2P+ guy).

That's... brutal. Even with the D they play, that's not enough to get it done. So that has to change somehow.

They need to bring in scoring/shooting during the off season to improve their offense. They have a elite level defense, but their offense just isn't good. I think they need to trade for a solid ball handler during the off season. Colin Sexton,Anfernee Simons,Coby White comes to mind. Maybe Trae Young if they're willing to make a bigger move. Trading Paolo Banchero +assets for Giannis could also be a option for the Magic.Maybe bring in another shooter for a vet min. Maybe Tyus Jones or Gary Trent Jr. I would stay away from D'Angelo Russell, even for a vet min.

I think this is a very fair assessment, thanks. I think the Magic are not that far away unlike some of my fellow Magic fans. We have assets to trade for a scoring and 3pt bombing SG, that will help Paolo & Franz significantly. Then sign a viable vet PG to stabilize things and not have Paolo and Franz bring the ball up so much. Add another bench 3pt shooter.

Considering they were the 5th seed last season, taking the Cavs to 7 games, and the 3rd seed for the early portion of this season, even without Paolo? Uhh... yeah. :-? No one in their right mind thinks this team performed to expectations.

I think almost everyone expected first round exist, and that is what we got. Going into the season, they were projected as maybe 6th. best team in the East, right? Top 4 was seen to be Celtics, Knicks, 76ers, Bucks, right outside top 4 was CAVS, then Indy and Magic. Not everything played out that way, but Magic were one of those teams that finished pretty much exactly where they were ranked.

Oh stop. Literally no one projected this to be a .500 team. No one. They were supposed to improve, not regress due to major injuries to all of their best players. As for the postseason, a second round appearance should have been possible, maybe even likely, because they would have been in the running for a top 4 seed. Not in the play-in.

Understandable, but this front office also at least attempted to get better by bringing in a veteran shooter who at the time was considered one of the best 3D SG roleplayers in the NBA, and has championship experience. They also brought in WCJ for Vuc, and got WCJ to sign for MLE money while being a solid floor spacing big. Brought in Goga, Mo, and Ingles have all been solid moves.

I'm not saying this is the best front office or anything, but they hit on the picks they needed to, found some gems in the draft, and have made some solid trades and FA signings in between it all.

They have a solid core of guys, and still have the ability to make more moves with expendable players on solid contracts, and 2 picks in what many consider one of the best drafts in a while. We'll see what they do with it, but so far I don't see them as a front office that is in the gutter of the NBA.

They have made mistakes, but they also are making moves that clearly have the intention of making the team better, and as a fan of another team, I have to respect that. They could trade Suggs and their two picks this year for a solid shooting guard, KCP goes back to shooting 40% from 3 with more spacing, and all of a sudden this team is looking like the best Magic team since 2009 pretty easily.

Give it time, they haven't fumbled the bag yet and have the right idea and vision so far.

They're built on 2 non-spacers. It's a challenge to build around them and will grow increasingly more challenging as they earn bigger paychecks.

They don't have the shooting and playmaking in place around them right now, so I think they listen hard on players outside those two.

They won't rebuild but I think a reboot works better sooner than later given the lack of shooting from the two feature players.

Finding a lead guard who can create his own shots, space, and create shots for others is easier said than done.

Outside such an acquisition, I don't see how they compete on the next tier of talent.

"KCP elite shooter" is more of a myth and bias toward succesful role players on big market teams.

Career 11,7 ppg, 36,7% for 3
Playoff 9,7 ppg, 35,8% for 3

btw "great shooting" all people talk about is him playing with Jokić and Lebron. Two of three biggest gravity providers & best passers in nba in past 20 years.

7,4 ppg , 26% for 3 . That's KCP in finals.
Last year in 8/12 games he stayed in single digit in scoring in playoffs.

Magic simply never were one ultra limited spot up shooter / role player away from saving this offense. Nevermind fact he plays same position as Suggs (SG), as team needs Franz & Paolo to even walk ball to half court because nobody else can do even that.

To play it simple, Magic wasted 2023 on Fultz, 2024 on adding player they didn't need ( KCP), rest of salary was wasted on 4 backup -level Cs : Carter, Goga, Isaac and Mortiz.
Whole this time biggest need was PG. Yet our front office still elects to stay blind to a fact.

btw our draft history with Weltman, along with FA additions is way more shaky than some of non - Magic fans think.

Weltman has been running this team since summer of 2017. For start, in back to back drafts he drafted Isaac and Bamba with 6th overall picks.

They need a guard in the worst way. They should have chased Coby White at the deadline. Someone like KCP is good in theory but he can't create shots. You can only rely on Franz and Paolo for so much, you need your guards to be able to create. Suggs will help but he's not an elite offensive player either.

He's a punk. Instead of stepping up when he needs to, he takes his ball (from the referees) and goes home (because he's been ejected.)

There is a point where anyone would get frustrated when they've been denied proper support by their team for so long.

On the bright side for them, they won't have to pay Franz 30% for All-NBA. He might have been a borderline selection if he hit 65 games.

Give it time, they haven't fumbled the bag yet and have the right idea and vision so far.

i dont see the "gems" except for the high picks they got. Yes, they finally made the trade that broke up Vuc/Gordon/Fournier. WCJ signed for a bit more than MLE and is very erratic, but not a huge mistake (though he disappears when you need him). Mo only stuck around because his brother is here. KCP, not a good signing in my opinion. We already had Suggs as a younger version of KCP. So they then force Suggs to play PG which is not his strength and we still need a PG. Should have left Suggs at SG where he had a great year and found a way to get a PG. Ingles was a meh move, 36 yr old, 4 ppg, bench move. That was more to hit the salary floor than anything. Orlando has about 5 core players, everyone else could and should be moved or strongly considered to move. Our star players have asked for help and the front office did nothing to help them. and KCP should be traded before Suggs, unless they believe he still cannot stay healthy. Suggs higher ceiling than KCP.

Not in the play-in.

yes, have to agree. team almost got home court last year and I thought they could vie for a top-4 spot this year before injuries.

you have never watched the Magic if you think Young fits their culture.

he’s pretty scrappy. I can see it. he’s a tough player

now it looks like you havent watched Young play.

Weltman hasn’t made a trade of significance for this roster in 4 seasons.

He’s botched every draft pick that hasn’t been within the top 8 of a draft, and Orlando’s picks are at #16 and #25. I pray he trades them.

My expectations from him low. Huge moves need to be made to make this offense work and I don’t see him pulling it off in an offseason.
