The coach is not designing this, even Harts reaction shows this wasn’t the play.
I think Mikal is just really really dumb as a basketball player

It means he dribbles the air out of the ball and when the defense collapses he makes the right play. Getting your teammates involved means setting up the offense and putting players in the right position, I.e running pick and pop with Kat and actually giving him the ball on the pop
We don't run an offense bro. It's a free for all out there with no structure outside of ISO Brunson. He still manages to get plenty of assists out of that mess every night. Most nights when his team can't get it done he takes over and wins games for us. That's the entire offense. The game tells you what to do.![]()
Dude dropped 39/17 for us this season. Is that him pounding the air out of the ball? Stop it. Jalen does what he can with the n limited options he has. This team doesn't even run basic plays on any level.

Re: PG - this is the opposite of fun
Let's be real JB wasn't gonna do jack on that bum ankle even if we were able to get him into the game sooner. It takes him 20 of the 24 seconds to go full ISO mode anyway. Wouldn't leave much time left. Bickerstaff fouling when they were up by 3 was also a super smart move. Thibs being out coached again... Not surprising.

not rewatching or anything but some random plays popped back in my head which loom large in a close loss.
i remember one horrible full court pass by bridges to mitch (he wasn't even open) - led to a turnover.
i think there was one by hart where he got a loose ball but for some reason jump passed and turned it back over.
those 2 late passes to mitch that were forced and turnovers (one by OG, one by brunson)
the failed oop by hart to mitch where mitch was wide open but hart somehow got blocked.

Yep, some real boneheaded plays. The team doesn't know how to sustain momentum.

Re: PG - this is the opposite of fun
We don't get other players (e.g., THJR) on Brunson because we take too much time getting the ball in the front court -- watch and see -- Pistons are up court with about 20 sec on the shot clock - we're about 17 sec.
Also, I'll say it again -- if KAT "allows" Harris to guard him (without going crazy in the post and fouling Harris out), we lose. KAT in the post makes it easier for teammates. The biggest problem the Knicks have now (other than missed free throws) is that even when Brunson has a great game, he isn't making his teammates better - he's just pulling a rabbit out of his hat.
Keep in mind that if the Knicks lose the series, they will have lost 3 of 4 at home.

Knicks win: Thibs deserves a statue outside MSG!
Knicks lose: Trade for this all time great, the roster isn't good enough to beat a lower playoff seed. All hail Thibs!
And I'm not even doing much hyperbole

Get Mikal in the second unit!!!!!! He's a completely different player without JB and Josh out there. Holy crap it's so obvious.

GONYK wrote:mpharris36 wrote:what I can't reconcile is everyone is saying this isn't as tough as a team and that is why we aren't separating ourselves from last years team.
Our defense isn't the issue this series...outside of Brunson everyone is defending either on par with the skill set or better (outside of maybe Deuce who looks like a shell of himself on both ends).
We didn't even lose the rebound battle. This has nothing to do with "toughness"
It's the offense that is losing us these games and execution. We are 11th in the NBA in OFF Net Rating in the playoffs.
We have more offensive talent this year than last and we are struggling. And our defense is far better this year than last playoffs.
I know its year one with a lot of new bodies but the fact we didn't work out a lot of the same issues of offense/execution from early in the year is troublesome. We got off to that amazing offensive start when teams would just play there center on KAT....we were nearly breaking records for how good our offense was playing. And now that teams have adjusted we haveven't made a single adjustment to that when teams have been playing us this way since like December. Zero excuse for this ****.
There's really only one adjustment that matters, but the players on the floor won't do it.
SHOOT THE F*CKIN 3
Boston had more 3PAs midway through the 3rd than we had all game. They were shooting 15% and it didn't matter to them. You have to stretch the defense given them more to think about than packing the paint.
I honestly didn't think we would miss Donte high volume distance 3 ball shooting as we did last year. We are clearly missing that. Mikal really isn't a threat from ATB....KAT is basically our best but teams have taken that away a lot with wings on him instead of centers....Brunson doesn't even seek out 3's a lot and OG is more of a C&S guy.
Deuce was also suppose to take the next step...and he hasn't

yea that and like 8 different loose balls the knicks just couldn't grab - including that last play of the game there where if they get the steal they have the ball down 1.

ehh i feel like OG had a bunch of cuts to dunks in his first game as a knick, and then he stopped doing it. almost like once he "learned" the offense, he was told not to cut.

Also Mikal is setting the pick on the side so he has the clear path to the rim. It seems like OG was supposed to pop out and Mikal was supposed to slip the screen for the open lane to the hoop

it makes it really hard to really chop it up with fams on here. as a thibs fan, i'm not looking for ways to troll thibs haters. i also don't generally engage the other side of it.
if i'm gonna try to have a convo here, it's going to look a lot more like what i just experienced with MDB.
but i try to focus on the parts i can control. and engage in some of the humor when i can.
I try to be objective so I appreciate when you step in to say "wait, let's pull back and look at the entire picture". Because it's not all on Tom. We win as a team, and lose as a team. The players need to be accountable.
Yes, I believe Tom has peaked with this team and I am not a fan of how we play with this group. I had no issue with how Tom coached last year. But this group is different and needs to be used differently than the JB/Randle metal bats Knicks.
Yes, I believe there are roster issues and some guys need to be moved to make the overall sum of its parts better. We are too top heavy and I have been calling for Mikal to be moved for months now. Guys need to play for each other, move the ball, try to get each other going. We aren't seeing that. As leader of the team, JB has to realize that KAT needs to get the ball and make it happen. KAT taking 5FGAs in the 2nd half of a clincher is inexcusable and Karl has to open his mouth and demand the ball.
It's disappointing but it's not the end of the world. This is Year 1 of the window. We have a ton of talent. Now comes the next step.
