Suns Expected To Target First-Time NBA Head Coach

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Apr 30, 2025 5:42 am

The Phoenix Suns are expected to hire a young, first-time NBA head coach, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

The Cavs' Jordan Ott and Thunder's Dave Bliss are rumored to be potential candidates for the role.

Ott was a finalist for the Hornets' job last season. Bliss is the Thunder's lead assistant and defensive coordinator.

Other possible candidates include the Cavs' Johnnie Bryant, Royal Ivey and Ben Sullivan from the Rockets, Heat associate head coach Chris Quinn, and Mavs' assistants Sean Sweeney and Jared Dudley.

If they are going to do a full-blown rebuild, it makes sense to have a coach who can relate better with the younger generation and develop along with them, on a cheaper contract. If they continue being delusional and keep their 3 primadonas, then a first-time head coach is yet another nail in their deeply dug coffin.

If I'm a first-time head coach, I'd want a 1+1 deal. I'm not about to be a scapegoat for the failures of next season or the following season.

That would be the dumbest move that coach can make. You want to get a longterm deal for the Suns job because you’re guaranteed free $$ for years even after being fired.

I bet Ishbia would love to give out a 1 yr deal instead though like you said.

This will likely end up in another one year tenure. More or less, just another mistake in the Ishbia ownership window.
