Re: PG - this is the opposite of fun
Coaching continues to be awful. This is not a recent trend. We have a defensive coach with defensive personnel and our defensive is mediocre - that's coaching. We can't seem to get KAT a touch where he starts on the low block - that's coaching. We never exploit mismatches or adjust well in game - that's coaching. Our rotations, substitutions and minute distribution has been garbage all season - that's coaching.
Our coach is a bum. If we don't replace him in the off-season, we are doomed next year too.

Take Josh out and put in a center, if your perimeter player has been guarded by a center for 4 months and you still don't have an answer, it's the coach.
We're in a dog fight with a less talented team, how is that not the coachI could see if this were the Pacers or something, but this is the Pistons whose star is playing in them for the first time. It shouldn't be close, no matter how much you dislike the roster this Pistons team is less talented and relies on 1 player even more than us.
It was JB Bickerstaff when we beat the Cavs, it's Tom right now when JB is outcoaching him.
Sounds like a roster problem because we had no issue getting past the Sixers with less talent.
You've reached rock bottom when you have to imply that the Pistons are more talented than us.

But we still have a mikal problem. Even if a coach gets him in motion more runs him off screens and utilizes his "talents" better.
Also we need a fcking bench. Outside of mitch we dont have NBA players on it. Deeeeez regressed a lot this year. Which has been devastating. So unless that gets addressed. We're playing "better" basketball and still losing tl the Cs or Cavs in the 2nd round cause this is a talent driven league and they're still better than us even if we replace the coach.
I agree we need upgrades to the bench but, they don't play enough and are not coached at all. Precious should be playing. Wright/Kolek/Shamet all played well enough when Jalen was out. Not good enough anymore?
I'm really done. Fire Thibs. That's the first step this summer. Anything else can wait.

you honestly think Kolek and Wright should be getting minutes in this series? They would be defending them no differently the brunson. Shamet maybe should get some time but thats about it.
When you needed them they helped you win. Precious included. Now we are playing the same two bench players over and over and losing games in the playoffs. Try something new. Anything!! What is Deuce providing right now that Wright can't? Nothing at all. Where's Shamet? Where's Precious? No one thinks Precious can guard Tobias? I do. People sleep on him too much. Dude has done nothing but play well for us when we need him. He's a decent bench player. Use him!

The Knicks defensive rating was all over the place last year and they had the 2nd worst defensive rating of all teams during the postseason.
You mean when OG, Mitch went down? Of course it would be horrible without them
We barely saw those 2 play together and the team's overall defense wasn't even good in that period from April into the postseason.
When OG and Mitch shared the court together in the playoffs, the Knicks had a DEF rating of 112.24.

sham is sort of on to something ... Bridges, Towns, Hart not as willing to shoot ... lot of new faces this year and just not jelling. Last year's team flowed.
I believe coaching makes a huge difference (see Cleveland) but obviously not the whole thing. However, if he can't even get the play calls right and is caught sort of napping, then how can we believe he's taking a detailed approach to getting the offense going in between games?
It's an open question.

The way we've gotten smoked coming out of halftime in each game this series has been really debilitating. We've fallen behind early and then again midstream and are always clawing back from those holes.

I'll be honest. We didn't look good last postseason or the year before that. And I said it then. We strictly won off the other team being injured, hero ball by Brunson and a miracle shot. I don't recall the team looking good at all. The same struggles we have now is the same struggles we had then and yall want to keep giving Thibs a pass but hold everyone else accountable ... nah that's played out.
Last year we got exposed by not being able to guard the 3.. same thing this season.
Outside of January last season, we were pretty blah. But yes we had tougher personalities. That I do miss. And before this series I sad we were soft too, because we were! But they're battling this series, going up against a top 5 defense.
Detroit and Houston might be the toughest youngest team in the NBA right now.

It's ugly basketball from a bygone era.
That's the thing too, listen to some of the non-Knick podcasts, and it's almost always the same complaints about us from outsiders looking in. Zach Lowe on his last podcast basically eviscerated Tom, even though we won, because some of things we do are just inexplicable. He's not in love with the roster, but the coaching has been horrific and that's what he keyed in on. At least the nerd podcasts are now talking about it, Nate Duncan basically loathes Tom
It seems replacing the cosch is the easiest thing to do.

Mikal will need to rework his shot, if he can get back to shooting off high screens it opens up a lot of things for him. To me, they have to make a decision on what to do about Hart. If he can't fix his shot he's a negative player in my opinion, he doesn't put pressure on the rim, and he can't shoot. Personally, I'd try and turn him into two players, younger guys that could be better if given the chance.
This team should be running a ton of onball screens, but we just don't, and we never have. It's why our bigs are always among the lowest in the league in PnR rollman frequency. Haliburton has the ball more than Brunson, they realistically have 1 creator, yet they have a winning record against .500 or better teams the last two seasons because they spam on ball screens and play true 5 out.
The also have depth which we don't.
And yeah, we have to move some pieces to flesh out the roster. I love jHart and would hate to see him go but he really muddies up the offense. And I love the knicks more so if wlhe has to go he has to go. I want to see this team contend.

Unfortunately it is a team game so you can't just highlight those 77 minutes and ignore everything else. We are speaking about the team as a whole.

are we talking about the sixers team with old ass Lowry starting a pg that's worse than brunson on defense and a hobbled Embiid? A team with Batum and Payne as their top bench guys. A way less athletic and defensive team than Detroit??/ Which also took us 6 games to close out.

You can mitigate for lack of 1 vs 1 talent with well executed play calling. Obviously it can only overcome so much, but you can def squeeze every ounce of juice from the talent on the roster that way. I think we can agree that Thibs hasn't exactly done that.
Fully.
It seems like we have both a roster and a thibs problem.
I do get the worry that he is a coach that brings "intangibles". That he gets his players to play better than they're capable of but I tend to think there is prolly a cap on that. And that you need a coach who brings that and the ability to put his players in the best possible situation to succeed.
He also isn't at fault for not having a bench. Ours sucks. Even if he should have played em more throughout the year.
Anyways, wish we were talkin sht about Boston right now instead of the tired arguments and starphucking but the sun also rises.
A better or less stubborn coach gets more out of this roster. A better coach probably doesn't field a fake 5-and-out lineup. Detroit is shooting more 3's then the Knicks (albeit, not by much, but still). That's wild to me. Offense shouldn't be such a struggle. It's like last season all over again.

While I generally agree with you, against Detroit we're either guarding the 3s well or they plain suck shooting them. Either way, 3s aren't why they're so closely competitive.
